Job application process

Hi All

I've been teaching for a couple of years and feel it's time to move to another school. In my previous career, it was accepted practice to apply for a job, pull a sickie to attend interview and then spend a few days considering any job offers.
I gather things are very different in teaching! Please can someone tell me how the process works - do I need to tell my current head that I'm interviewing?
Any other tips would be appreciated!
Thank you

Yes, you need to tell your head when you submit an application, as references will usually be called prior to interview. You are allowed tine off to attend interviews, but need to be honest about where you are going.
If you go to interview you will either have to wait there for a decision, or be sent home/ back to work to await a decision (usually that day). If successful you need to accept. At interview your last question will usually be, "are you still a firm candidate for this post?" This is your last chance to withdraw.
It is acceptable to ask to speak to the head and withdraw during the interview day also, if you know the school is not for you.
