Should I help?

I taught a year 10 class last year which is this year being taught by a colleague. They need to do some controlled assessments and she has asked me to help her prepare them. I am torn between being a kind and helpful colleague and saying why should I, it's not my class anymore. I do have the time because I'm very part time.

Just smile and say sorry don't have time.
I ma now a teacher, but worked for years in another industry. And noticed that women seemed to be programmed to feel they need to take on extra stuff beyond the official remit. Men don't do this. they ask for extra money for extra tasks.
If you would be willing to do this for extra money ( in school time!) then you need to ask for it. If not, don't agree. And definitely don't agree to the emailing over the hols - definitely a VERY slippery slope!)

I'm astonished at her effrontery. I'm not in the UK but assume that the feedback to students on the CAs makes it clear why they did not achieve as well as they might have and the teacher knows this, so should be able to tailor the support.

Definitely don't get involved. Your being part-time is entirely beside the point. Her class, her problem.

I agree with SunnaClaus.

I do have the time because I'm very part time.

You don't have the time at work though??

You are part time and paid accordingly, that doesn't mean you are there to teach her classes for her in your own time. You'll be directly increasing her pay (via PMR results) at the expense of your own time. Why would you do that?!

Well in a way I feel responsible for her performance related pay because with me some underperformed!

My colleague took over my Y10 class (now y11) in September. She has never asked for help with CCA.

Was your teaching inadequate or did they not do enough work?

Either way, I wouldn't do it. Did you go part time to carry on working the same amount but getting paid much less??

All sorts of reasons for underperformance. Some of the group did great so it can't all have been my fault!!

Even if you were sacked for being totally useless (which you are quite clearly not!!), you would still have no compulsion to teach the group unpaid the year later-it isn't your concern.

Just say sorry you're now committed to other things. Don't specify what they are; if could be watching Loose Women-it's got nothing to do with anyone else!!

It's her responsibility now. You may have to just be blunt.
