We've just done our end of term assessments. I'm in Year 6 this year, having moved from lower KS2. In every reading assessment test I've ever administered in the past, I have read the initial instructions and then told children I can't read anything else. My (new to me) job share (who's been in Y6 for a few years), assigned both of us, plus the TAs, to support LA chn by reading the questions. I queried that in some surprise but job share was insistent it was fine and that it was a test of comprehension, not just reading.
I ran it past some colleagues further down school today and they were horrified that we'd read questions, and showed me KS1 papers which make it clear that the teacher is not to read the questions. I checked the instructions on our paper, but there were no specific teacher instructions, it just said 'Read the text and answer the questions'. Is it a grey area, as it doesn't explicitly say chn must read the questions? Is it the norm in upper KS2 to have readers for reading assessments? If we're doing it wrong, I'll tackle my colleague, but they are senior management with a lot of power and I am pretty much just considered their cover teacher (my performance management is linked to this class though, and Ofsted are due, so I don't want to be party to wrongly administered assessments and inflated levels/whatever they're called now).
