I've just volunteered to take part in the end of term teacher performance and I'm terrified. Any advice?

The last day of term, teachers dressing up and performing classic songs. Students find it hilarious. That sort of thing. I haven't volunteered before because I can't sing, and I'm part time and usually have a small baby or toddler on that day. But now large toddler will be in nursery and I've always been so impressed with those who willingly send themselves up and make it such a fun event so I've volunteered.

Aaaargh. I'm absolutely terrified. But I want to take part, I really do.

Any of you done this despite limited skills?

(I'm going to be in S Club 7 singing Reach for the Stars)

Could you pair up with someone else or sing something obviously more ott or funny? Or something with a clear dance routine so you don't have to worry about what you're doing?

A highlight of my school is life was seeing my straight, boring, frankly we all hated him, science teachers, in his fifties, lying on stage dressed as madonna and singing 'like a virgin.' Completely not appropriate these days but we all had a new found respect for him as he didn't take himself too seriously. So it is a good thing you do!

Yes, will be with 6 others (S Club 7) and there will be dancing.

I suppose the thing is to be enthusiastic despite lack of skills. Looking awkward would actually be far worse than being crap at singing, wouldn't it.

Better to be enthusiastic and terrible than just terrible I've done a few now (though I'm primary) - Thriller with masks went down well, last year we all did a dance to Rockin Around the Christmas Tree and (shudder) What Does the Fox Say. The kids loved it which made it worth it! (I really, really can't dance!)

My mum always threw herself into the end of term performances (primary rather than secondary), the more ott the better.
Just go as over the top as you can, the children frankly want you to be crap but willing - that's what makes it funny! Good luck and good on you for volunteering.

Thanks for replying! First rehearsal tomorrow. My DC can now sing it having listened to it on repeat all weekend.
