Art teachers & art technicians help.....!

Hi, I have an interview for an art technician post this week. I am very well qualified for the post, but I suspect the other 5 candidates might well be too. Is there anything that you can suggest that might make me stand out - what, in other words, makes the perfect art technician?? As an art teacher, what do you find most helpful about having a technician? How much input do they have in the class - helping students etc? How much do you like them to be involved or are they in the background? What do you value?

Thank you so much - I want the job so badly!

Not an art teacher but involved in appointing support staff.

  1. Don't make it look as if you will tread on the teacher's toes. However if you have plans to be a teacher yourself eventually and see the post as temp, best be honest (with timescales)
  1. Be aware of h&s issues around things like kilns, sharp tools, hazardous substances, hot wax etc
  1. Be aware of child protection policies and your role in safeguarding
  1. Research exam syllabi for art gcse (and a level?) to get an idea what sort of resources are used for the various skills and projects
  1. Key skills likely to include flexibility, self motivation, team worker

Good luck
