I wonder what she is proposing?! I hope she doesn't just say, 'vote for us in 2015 and we'll do loads to help you...'

This bit was interesting...

She also promised to find ways for teachers to spend more of their time in the classroom teaching

Does she intend to do this by scrapping PPA Grin

Rotflao that anyone would believe her...

Mostlyjustaluker · 01/10/2014 06:21

I just came on here to dicuss this article. Reading it over breakfast I though wow maybe things would change and then I woke up and realised it is election promise time.

Btw Where are they hiding Gove until after the election?

rollonthesummer · 01/10/2014 08:14

The sad thing is, 95% of me thinks...you won't make any changes, why would you? You have made no changes to reduce work load since being in power-you only made things worse. You are only saying this to get the teacher vote as you definitely don't have that now, and a few hundred thousand teachers voting for you would help your cause.

But 5% of me read that bbc article and thought-ooh, maybe things could change and go back to how it was?!

I think I just want to go and teach in the 1950s though and that's not going to happen!

#TellNicky was trending on twitter last night. If she gets through that lot and digests them properly she might have an idea of a teacher's workload.

Id love to believe this bit think it is a cynical ploy for votes. No teachers', they've already lost them. Parents are waking up to the damage paperwork is doing to their children's education - this sound bite is aimed at them.

rollonthesummer · 01/10/2014 08:32

Do you think that's what it is? Are parents starting to realise?

I wonder if NM will read any of them??

It is bullshit.

To reduce workloads they could have smaller class sizes and more teachers. Ain't gonna happen.

They could reduce pupil assessments. Ain't gonna happen.

They could stop fiddling with the curriculum. Ain't gonna happen.

I can only conclude that they think voters are stupid which I suspect most Tory voters are

ScalySally · 02/10/2014 17:48

What Suffolk said.

toomuchicecream · 02/10/2014 21:12

When she says how she's going to reduce teacher workload, I might go against my better judgement and give her the benefit of the doubt. Or again, I might not.

Let's have some specifics Nicky. What can I stop doing?

rollonthesummer · 02/10/2014 21:47

Yes, that's it; unless we hear something specific, it's a pretty hollow gesture.

I'm sure I remember David Caerln before the last election saying how teachers were so overworked, they had x trillion changes to how they taught/worked and it was ridiculous and he pledged to do something about it.

Erm....!

Why can't they ever change things now?
It's always just promises for the future.

Nicky Morgan is promising MORE time in the classroom - that means a higher workload then? Excellent idea Nicky.

I didn't get that either! I reckon they'll scrap PPA. That will help...

I have worked full time for 14 years. I am currently on sick leave because of burnout due to the immense workload - marking being the worst! I don't believe ANY politician on the run up to elections. I sadly voted Tory at the last election because I was unhappy with welfare system under labour. Worst mistake of my life! Despite me hating how labour rewarded the jo shy, I was actually better off under Labour! Not sure who to vote for now. I am not even sure what the answer is to reducing workload - tone down the curriculum, stop making it so target driven (seriously, should a 4/5 year old be expected to know and CARE about whether they can use a full stop or begin to find the number 1 more or less than a number up to 10), stop expecting all kids to be achieving the same level at the same time (they don't all grow at the same rate so why should they grow academically the same?), allow children up to 7 to follow a more creative and play based curriculum so they get the practical and hands on learning sorted before sitting them at a desk and expecting 6&7 year olds to 'encapsulate sentences' and cutting the school day slightly to allow us more time to plan, resource, assess and mark work?

annie987 · 07/10/2014 18:52

Bye bye PPA!

rollonthesummer · 07/10/2014 20:37

I voted Lib Dem last time as Nick Clegg seemed to make sense. I just don't trust any of them now. I have never voted for the Conservatives and am pretty sure I never will-getting rid of Michael Gove hasn't made me want to. I suspect they got rid of him to try to curry a bit of favour with those in teaching though.

I'll probably vote for Labour. What will happen to the new curriculum if they get in-will it just be scrapped?

I reckon the Tories will stay in power though. I very much hope I am wrong

just to point out there plans to get more time in the classroom may be to do with plans to extend school hours and not to do with helping teachers... though not read article ..As I know its a load of nonsense

rollonthesummer · 07/10/2014 21:45

plans to extend school hours

I don't think this one will be long coming. The longer children are in school, the more hours people can work-wehay!
