On mat leave and thinking of applying for a promotion - WWYD?

Am currently on mat leave with my first baby. I am currently a HoD in a large secondary school; before I was pregnant I was applying for DHT jobs and decided to withdraw from an interview for one position when I found out I was pregnant.

I keep up to date with jobs and two posts have come up in a school I'm quite keen to work in (jobs don't come up in this council very often). However, I think I might be being entirely unrealistic thinking I could potentially start at a new school as a DHT with a baby who is still very young - I am planning to return to work when she is 8 months old.

I do have good support from my DH and my family, and although it will be completely straightforward to return to my current job, and much easier, I don't really like the school and am ready for a move. We could also do with the money to be honest!

What would you do? I don't know if it's worth the effort of completing the application if I can't decide if I really want the job. Also I think there are internal candidates.

Go for it! Life's too short for what it's. Also it's good practice filling out forms and doing interviews. Could prepare you for that dream job. It also gets your face known and out there. Doesn't matter if there are internal candidates you stand a good a chance as any. DH has been an internal candidate who was overlooked for an external candidate and has twice been given a job over an internal candidate.

Do it! You'll only look back and wonder "what if?" If you don't.

Thanks folks. I think I might apply. I am a bit worried about the workload but I think in some ways it might be easier - I do a lot of teaching just now, with loads of exam classes so have loads of marking (my subject is English) - and that's in addition to my management responsibilities.

Now I need to tell my HT - that'll be fun!
