Sad, worn down and fed up

I don't know why I'm posting, sympathetic ear I suppose.

I'm on a terms contract. I had to leave my last HOD position as I needed to relocate after a close bereavement, which was pretty traumatic. I am hoping to get another HOD position for January.

But in the meantime I hate my new school. The department are close and chummy and pally. They all obviously think I am a rubbish teacher as I'm employed technically on supply and I keep getting well meaning advice but from NQTs - sigh. Then the kids' behaviour is awful; I've got nearly all sink groups and it's just relentless. Some are so weak I honestly don't know what to plan for them.

I'm just sad!

What do you teach?

LapsedTwentysomething · 10/09/2014 20:04

Go easy on yourself. Are you over your bereavement?

I too have just started at a school I hate working in. Behaviour is appalling and management couldn't give a monkeys. They adapt uniform rules to suit what students wear is that they don't have to enforce them. The content of my teaching is entirely directed from above. Can't wait for something else!

I don't know what I'm trying to offer really. Solidarity? I sincerely understand how you feel.

I've just started in a new school and absolutely hate it. You have my sympathy

EssexMummy123 · 10/09/2014 21:11

are you sure that they have really made the assumption that "They all obviously think I am a rubbish teacher as I'm employed technically on supply "
I'd be surprised if that was really the case and more fool them if it is.

I would also wonder if you are over your bereavement...
As for the sink groups. Well. I work in healthcare and recently attended a quality improvement conference where one of the most inspiring lectures focused on 'flipping' and all the examples came from education. Much of it was American based, but it was genuinely inspiring. The idea that is it pointless to plug away with ideas and theories of education that just don't met all pupils needs.... Maybe it is something you could try with them? Maybe Google it - it might inspire you?

I've just relocated and started a new job and I feel flat too. I wouldn't say I hate it but I'm used to leading my own department and feeling in control and I feel a bit peripheral here. Despite everyone being nice I feel really lonely because I don't have an established bond with anyone.

I'm just going to wait it out for now and see if it gets better.

If you are unhappy and on supply apply for something else and get out. Life is too short and one bad job cant ruin confidence and careers.
