Level 6 SATS reading results

Girlyheaven38 · 05/08/2014 12:53

Hi just wondering if any pupils gained a level 6 in the sats reading test this year..? Apparently many pupils who were consistently gaining level 6 in the teacher assessment did not gain it in the actual test and national results suggest the overall results were less than 0.5%!

Starting to get "a bit pissed off" is a normal reaction.

Being in "very angry tears of frustration" to the point where the mother had to be called in and found it "very upsetting" is disproportionate, and suggests that something else was going on.

So a poster says that her ds has level 6 in everything (exceptional) and you pick up on the fact that he was pissed off after a week of testing.
Okay then.

ACheesePuff · 19/08/2014 08:47

I don't think it's the fact that her Ds got level 6, it's the fact that she is being quite dismissive of the fact that this is quite an achivement for a 10 year old, and she is sounding as if this was just a walk through for hers. For most of our children this would have been the result of lots of hard work and they would have found it a challenge, but she is getting people's backs up by suggesting it was 'nothing much'.

I queried the going in because he was told he couldn't read a book during an exam (quite right too). The rest of info about crying/frustration etc came afterwards.

Anyway, I think this thread has been derailed enough.

Original OP asked if any level 6 reading SATS had been gained. So far, apart from manosponge's DS (I presumed manosponge was a man btw, of course we'll never know because he/she has left the thread) I haven't heard of any children getting one.

Snapespotions · 19/08/2014 08:54

Thelma, I also have a child who is "exceptional" academically, but I happen to think social and emotional development is at least as important.

GertieFinkle · 19/08/2014 08:56

Yes cheese puff - it was the utter arrogance of the post 'I was only interested when level 6's were so elusive' etc which grated. MUST STOP DERAILING!

Hakluyt · 19/08/2014 09:47

Getting level 6 in everything is fantastic. If pretty meaningless. Being an arse about it, as either a parent or a child - not so much.

NerfHerder · 19/08/2014 09:59

Going back to the OP...
We have 13 level 6 in maths, 8 in SpaG, but none for reading. Similar picture llast year too, however we're in a grammar school area, and the brightest get creamed off (we're the secondary receiving them btw!)

And gertie, something tells me that that poster can get their posts deleted!

midnightmoomoo · 19/08/2014 11:48

My eldest got a level 6 in maths but missed one in reading by two marks, although his teacher assessment was a 6 for reading which was a nice surprise. He got a 5 on the spag paper which really impressed me, he might be a whizz at maths but he can't spell for toffee!

I would say a level 6 would be unusually high grade for a Year 6 student to reach in their SATs. I teach in secondary so can´t see our primary data until next month. We have about 110 Year 6s and I would imagine we would have 5 or fewer level 6s amongst them. The rest between 4b and 5b with 5-10 at 4c or even 3a.
