I have to present an award on Friday to a Year 10 form pupil. Out of a bunch of outstanding people, I've found it really hard to choose, but I've finally chosen a lad for the following reasons:-
he's hardworking, polite, keen to help, ordinary (no drama ever), never cheeky, no bad language, will offer to carry for me, other pupils like him, and he perseveres with his work, regardless of how he feels. I've never heard him complain in the 3 years I've been is form tutor.
It's his ordinariness that makes him stand out to be honest. When all the drama-llama's in class are flouncing and yelling, he's the quiet one in the back who watches and waits patiently.
I don't know how to words these traits without making the lad sound like a complete and utter bore. He is far from this, but I want to be able to express this when I hand out the award. Help!
