would like to understand the interview process - is it a scoring system for lesson/interview/application?

attended my interview but did not get a job. Taught a lesson and the feedback was really positive so the only thing that I think did not go well was interview but I thought that the lesson will win the situation... I had a very detailed application and when questions were asked at the interview I did not answer them in too much detail as a lot of it I covered in application ( I thought not to repeat myself)...I now wanted to understand how the scoring works at the interview. Is it a points system for each question? Thank you!

Have you asked them for feedback? It's the best way to get the answers you're looking for.

Not at my school. The interview will swing it as long as the lesson is fine/good - if the lesson is awful then no amount of fast talking can fix it but if all interviewees give decent lessons then we will go on what they say. However, if one lesson is amazing then that person will get the job. That's only happened once in my experience of interviewing - most interview lessons tend to be okay/fine/downright embarrassing; I've only seen one brilliant one that would make me not even care what they said at interview (luckily, she didn't say 'I'm an axe-murderer here to chop up your children' so it all turned out well).

I would suggest that you expand on your answers, giving concrete detail. My pet peeve in interviews is when interviewees tell me something banal, such as 'I'm in favour of chunking,' without any useful examples of what exactly they mean or how they would use/have used it and the impact they think it would have/has had.

It may have been that you:-
a) were a good candidate,
b) did well at the interview
c) and perfectly capable at doing the job

  • but someone else was better.
I would dislike this situation when conducting interviews but I carried on and appointed (what I/we thought) the best candidate.

Ask for feedback, try not to be disheartened, good luck next time.
