Hi,

I have been asked an usual question that Goggle can't supply the answer to. Why did 'Dear Parent/Guardian' change to 'Dear Parent/Carer'?

Having asked Goggle I find some schools and academies now use 'Dear Parent/Guardian/Carer' but the four schools I work for consider 'Dear P/C' to cover all bases. What do you think? If you have changed your addressing of parents why did you?

I think it's because guardian is a legal term.

A person may well be a carer for a child to whom they are not legal guardian. So grandparent might be doing the looking after a child if a parent is unwell/otherwise incapable or unavailable but not necessarily have guardianship.

Foster carers are not usually guardians to the children in their care either.
