So, what did we get?

After all the threads about vast class collections of vouchers, offers of holidays in 2nd homes, jewellery and the merits of homebaking versus alcohol... what did the teachers of Mumsnet actually gratefully receive?

My lovely class gave me:
1 set of smellies
1 scent diffuser
1 box of chocs
1 diary
1 personalised notebook
1 bag of homemade cookies with a tree decoration
3 tins of biscuits

I gave my TAs Wine.

£60 of M&S vouchers, £10 of White company vouchers, some chocs and a few bottles of wine. And we're a job share so my partner got the same...very generous class this year!

I never expect anything and the giving of gifts to teachers makes me cringe a bit. It's my job! I am probably in for a flaming now but TBH I find this thread somewhat distasteful.
I love the kids I teach, it's ridiculously hard sometimes but I love it.

nothing. secondary school so no presents but did have cards from some of my really lovely naughty students which meant a lot

Lottiedoubtie · 20/12/2013 23:43

I'm not going to post my list for fear of outing myself.

But in answer to the PO comment...

It is a given that we don't expect or particularly want presents. Getting them for doing your job is vaguely embarrassing, but, it's a nice (occasional) perk at the same time. Threads like these are an acknowledgement of the awkward but nice situation we're in.

Also it's christmas, do get over the pettiness Grin

AntiJamDidi · 20/12/2013 23:54

I'm secondary so I rarely get aanything, but this year mmy year 7s seemed to want to outdo each other. I got
a box of Cadbury heroes,
a bar of galaxy (which I'm fairly certain was supposed ti be an after school snack for himself but he gave it as a present instead)
3 lollipops (which look suspiciously like the prizes being given out in English lessons)
a small bag of malteasers
a slice of homemade cake.

I was really touched by every present I got, I never usually get anything.

LuvMyBoyz · 21/12/2013 05:26

I'm in secondary and have 4 presents but won't be opening them until Christmas Day.

GoodnessKnows · 21/12/2013 05:32

Ha ha ha

GoodnessKnows · 21/12/2013 05:33

Tick

BitchyHen · 21/12/2013 08:05

Yesterday I was given a card made by one of my students in his art lesson. I have worked as a TA in a KS4 PRU for the last three years and it's the first gift from a student I have received.
He was utterly horrible to me the day before, but had apologised, so the card was an acknowledgement of that and I was very touched.

Snargaluff · 21/12/2013 08:09

I didn't get anything, but I did play a board game with a year ten who has been horrible to me all term. That was worth fifty boxes of chocolates!

GoodnessKnows · 21/12/2013 09:20

What lovely and touching presents. Worth a million other bits n bobs. I still have letters ( framed ) from old students. Aaaaah

It's a lovely thread (and I'm not a teacher)

Why is everyone so bloody PO on mumsnet?

ILoveRacnoss · 21/12/2013 12:05

I do apologise if this has offended some. I can assure you that my intention was simply to celebrate the small gestures that are very much appreciated. It was intended to counter the "I give/get £xxx-worth of luxuries" threads that cause so much upset.

I've eaten all the homemade cookies already. They were delicious.

octopusinasantasack · 21/12/2013 12:10

I'm amazed by how much some of you have got!

MmeCinqAnneauxDor · 21/12/2013 12:19

I am not a teacher, but I think it is a lovely thread. Why are people so desperate to be offended?

Isn't it teachers sharing their pleasure at having their hard work acknowledged?

My DC gave their kids mugs filled with Lindor (natch) and DS was very pleased to see his teacher drink her tea out of her new mug.

DD was hugged by her teacher for giving her a nice homemade card.

Ubik1 · 21/12/2013 13:13

Oh God don't apologise Op, it just encourages them, they love and apology Grin

Pancakeflipper · 21/12/2013 13:24

I am not a teacher. I am a parent who with guidance from my DC's bought 5 presents for the staff at school (not cases of champers).

As you aren't mocking the gifts that are no doubt given to you with good intentions, then this thread is not (so far) horrible/nasty etc IMO.

but its not easy to buy for a teacher - you might not want a gift, there might be competitive Christmas pressie buying mothers glancing at your small offering, you might prefer a thank you note, you might get 17 scented candles and spend all Christmas sneezing. But overall most children in your care want to show you in a traditional Christmas way thank you

Anyway as you were teachers - enjoy your cookies/smellies/ handmade cards.

gingerbead · 21/12/2013 13:24

DF got a few bottles of wine a a few boxes of chocs from his tutor group. We don't drink wine but hosting Xmas so will be very useful! Choc already gone!

lookatmycameltoe · 21/12/2013 13:25

Why are some people so miserable? I'm not a teacher but loved buying my DC's fabulous teachers and TAs presents this year.

Thanks to all you lovely lot. I hope you enjoyed your gifts.
