need advice re complaint about a govener

Had to name change as a few people in RL know my name on here but I am a regular honest!

Basically we have a governor at our school who is completely negative about everything amd clearly has a grudge against the Head teacher, we recently had a public forum meeting for discussion and info, during this meeting the governor was incredibly rude to the head teacher. Interrupting and condesending and just awful.

Lots of parents were shocked by his behaviour and he is well known in the playground for moaning about the head teacher and the school. As well as sending emails to parents basically slaggign off the head teacher!

We think his behaviour is extremely unprofessional and he is bringing his role into disrepute. He is not supportive of the school at all.

Unfortunatley he is currently acting chair! And has another three yrs left in his role!

I know there is an official body we can complain to re govenors? But not sure who they are or how to contact them. Have tried google to no avail as its all about making complaints about the school, I am very happy with the school!! Its a great school!

I am assuming I do need to put the complaint to the give row first, which will be awkward as our kids are friends...hey ho but where do I go from there? Can we do a vote of no confidence or ask for his conduct to be looked into?

Any advice much appreciated :)

So we need to raise it with the govenors first,it says raise it with the chair, but he is the acting chair!

You'll need to raise it line with the school's complaints procedure which should be published on the school's website (it's a statutory requirement) and copy in the clerk to the governors too. As it's a complaint about the chair then you need to address your complaint to the Vice chair in the first instance. You'll need to include your reasons and evidence as to why you feel he's bringing the school into disrepute.

Do you know what sort of governor he is? Foundation, elected parent, LA, church? That will have a bearing on how easily he can be got rid of. If he's an elected parent governor then it's extremely difficult to get rid, the others are slightly easier but it's still a long process.

Your LA should have a Governance Team who you can ring or email for advice but you usually have to go through the school complaints procedure first, before they will actually get involved.

Her is an elected parent :( hsi child is leaving the school actually but he can still stay on until his elected term is up apparently? :(

Are you an LA school? If so, contact your local authority. Or contact other governors (other than the chair). The chair is elected by the governors, so they could act if they agree he is not abiding by their code of conduct.

Would the emails count as evidence, it says in that link that the school/governing body may have a policy on governors code of conduct/behaviour...I may request that from the school!

If he's elected then he can't be removed from the GB. He can however, be suspended for 6 months at a time which theoretically could be extended and extended until his elected term is up. It's right that he can finish his term even though his child has left.

You need to go through the proper procedures though, if you want any hope of suspending/getting rid of him.

Step 1 is to make a formal complaint to the Vice Chair and Clerk as I said in my earlier post. Written evidence to support what you are complaining about will have more effect than hearsay; emails are fine.

The Code of Conduct doesn't actually mean anything, it's a voluntary agreement but has no legal weight or sanction if it is not followed.

If there's a few of you who all feel the same it might be worth sending a letter from all of you, to make it clear you are not a lone voice.
