have nc for this

ofsted came this week at the school where I teach

we have been told we have to wait 2 weeks until the head will tell us what the outcome is.

What could the reason be for this? We are imagining all kinds Sad

Ofsted tell the school that outcomes are confidential to the school, but some heads think they mean confidential full stop so this could be why. My ds2's school kept it from staff and they got a Good, why the head didn't share I've no idea except she's an idiot . Of course it could be that they're appealing against the judgement, is it likely you've got RI?

Because no-one is supposed to know until the official report comes out. At out school The head and deputies were allowed to sit in on their final discussions (just to listen not allowed to participate) so they knew but weren't officially allowed to tell us. At our school they did more or less say so that we did know but in a very roundabout unofficial way. Now we are allowed to tell everyone and publish it etc. seems ridiculous really but supposedly those are the rules. Every school I have worked in though he head has basically told us unofficially...

Often at schools the HT tells the staff, who tell their mates at other schools, who tell their spouses, who tell their mates, who have kids a the school, who tell fellow parents.... Within 12 hours the whole blinking town knows and the HT is getting into trouble with Ofsted for not keeping it confidential.

mycatoscar · 05/10/2013 09:50

You could be right Roison

mycatoscar · 05/10/2013 09:51

Roisin even!

OP, I think you might have outed yourself... Perhaps report the thread to mnhq?

WhereIsBethanyBear · 05/10/2013 14:23

How is anything outing herself? She NCed. Confused

Hulababy · 05/10/2013 14:29

I've only ever been told by the HT on the final day, normally after school finishes. It is supposed to be confidential until the report comes out a fortnight later. IME it never is and people know within hours. I can't see the issue tbh though.

I suspect ome HT like to keep it from their staff as prt of their "control."

Thanks, I forgot to name change when I replied. I've reported the thread.

It's been one of those weeks and I'm knackered and not thinking straight. Days of ofsted and a school trip has taken in out of me I think!

The information is embargoed until the report is published. The head is the only person who sees the report and he is allowed to share the information (but not the report) with the SLT and the Governors.
We had an OFSTED before the holidays and the report wasn't published till Sept, so no one knew the details till then and the Governors and SLT were not allowed to talk to anyone about it.

Ihatespiders · 05/10/2013 15:33

We had Ofsted at the start of this term. We were not told straight away either. New rules apparently, being applied rigidly by the SMT. Our Head did give an indication that they were not unhappy... and that was it until we were told officially Good.

So it's not necessarily a bad thing if you're not told straight away.

Inclusionist · 05/10/2013 15:41

I sat in the final feedback meeting at our school and the Lead Inspector laid it on pretty thick that anybody outside the room at that moment must not know until publication.

Our Head did give the staff an unofficial indication but, listening to what was said, I can see why some wouldn't.

Inclusionist · 05/10/2013 15:42

It's because tribal read the report notes and could change the outcome.
