How exhausted are you all?

On a scale of 1-10 just how exhausted are all you teachers at the moment? Every colleague (primary and secondary) I speak to is jus about dead on their feet. Why is it so bad for us at the moment? I think I'm a good 8.5 on the scale at the moment!

Mignonette your DH is not subject to the scrutiny teachers are. He knows the legislation he is subject to and sticks to it, presumably. He does not spend a ridiculous amount of time evidencing this, nor does he deal with emotionally damaged teenagers who he is expected to sit down and convince to appreciate Shakespeare when they are more concerned about domestic abuse at home/their mum who they are a carer for

mignonette if teaching is so much better than your DH's job, why doesn't he retrain as a teacher?
Nobody has said we are more knackered than anyone else, just asking how knackered

Same thing happened to me fengirl1 - totally exhausted and three more weeks to go, and every time I think I am on top of things I get given more stuff to do.

A 10. For various reasons this term feels like the worst for work load despite being my 12th year. I am on the LMT and the amount of work I do for this does not equate to the pay and I honestly feel like stepping down in the next year or so.

Why don't schools break up now and go back mid August? Our school decided to do this a bit ago as the Head reckoned the weeks in July were far less useful than the weeks in August when everyone had had a break.

The move was very popular with everyone and is working well. It means the autumn term is long but this seems preferable to prolonging the agony in July.

I would not want the autumn term to be any longer.

I wouldn't want a term stretching for mid August to late December! The kids have stopped really learning by the last couple of weeks as it is - can't see that extra weeks would help.

8? Been ill all last week, horrible virus thing. Went in anyway but was barely capable of driving home at night, then had to look after small baby. Rested yesterday, got up early today to finish reports that I had planned to do last week! The children are tailing off too. Counting down 'till the summer hols. Cannot wait to actually spend some time with my child when I'm not exhausted!

Tbh I worked in an office before this, and at one point worked a 7 day week, with my weekend job being a physical one. It was nothing like as exhausting as this, I didn't really need my holidays to recuperate, and I had a fab social life. Shame I didn't know what I was getting into before I retrained!

In Scotland we get a holiday in October.

Am feeling very slightly better today and can't wait not to have that Sunday night feeling.

Agree with you saadia just when you think things are going to calm down another task comes along. Parents evening, music gala, sports night, reports (in with HT at the moment but will no doubt need further tweaking), pupil referral meetings, subject leadership SEF meetings, trips (risk assessments arghhh ...) and so on. I'm glad it's not just my school that's like this.

Schools here are the same - just completely overloaded. Implement this, this, this new initiative. Go and observe each other doing it. Evidence it. Display it. Tick, onto the next thing...

As well as developing our own brand new topic planners for every topic, making sure all our lessons are active and fully differentiated, recording every resource (both hard copy, online and teacher made) we use... Gah!
