The royal family

Do you think Andrew will face any criminal charges?

I’m only now reading Virginias book and it’s a very difficult read.

It’s 7 months on from Andrews arrest for misconduct in public office. Do you think he will be charged with anything to do with that? Do you think he’ll be charged with sexual abuse and rape?

I think they are concerned about AMWs mental health and potential suicide risks.

Well who knows, one can’t be too careful about this sort of thing, but it has been suggested that that was part of the PR “management” of the crisis: when they said AMW had been banished to Sandringham and was living on the charity of his brother, when he has since in fact been travelling in the Middle East and looking at properties in the south of France.

The Daily Beast carried an article about it at the time which is behind a pay wall titled,

“Buckingham Palace’s New ‘Epstein Files’ Strategy For Andrew Is Weaponized Pity”

And Lownie dismissed the claims about AMW’s fragile state of mind as a strategic "softening-up exercise" orchestrated by Buckingham Palace. He thought that the narratives around AMW’s deteriorating mh were deliberate attempts to evoke public sympathy and get people used to the idea that they "are now meant to feel sorry for Andrew".

If I recall correctly, I think he also dismissed the claims because at the same time he was getting reports from his sources that AMW was unrepentant and seemingly ebullient and unable to comprehend that he had done anything wrong or how this scandal had affected the RF and the institution.

And the PR strategy theory seems to ring true to me given that the original sources of these stories were insiders and senior courtiers from BP, who deliberately fed suggestions to The Sunday Times and Daily Mail and other media outlets.

One such story was framed around family concern and Prince Edward making an Easter visit to check on Andrew's well-being.

Why would BP would voluntarily share that sort of information unless they were trying to make some sort of PR point?

But, who knows? AMW must have a lot of pressure on him atm.

They may be true and still hard to prove in a court.

Of course they are hard to prove when hardly anyone involved in this widespread trafficking and rape gang has been prosecuted. One woman has been jailed and one man died in mysterious circumstances.
It is painfully obvious that senior people are protecting prince Andrew and the other rapists.

I believe all of this. But why should we feel sorry for a rapist who has never and will never realistically face jail time.
Oh poor man finally being recognised by the public for who he actually is. What a tragedy.
Even rich powerful men face some consequences for their actions

Ukisgaslit · 07/10/2026 10:10

One factor we must never forget:

The only reason the Windsors lifted a finger to do the side show of ‘punishment’ of Andrew ( while in my opinion continuing to do everything to protect him) was because the Epstein files were opened in another country.

They have always known about Epstein links to the palace .
They were happy to attempt several rehabilitation attempts of Andrew - William photographed with Andrew in the front seat and Kate in the back.
Yes the ‘mental health’ defence - that’s a familiar desperate PR line the Windsors use

Andrew would still be fully ensconced now if it were not for the partial release of the files

As for the Charles is not funding Andrew - how stupid do they think people are ?
( maybe this is the result of only interacting with royalists who question nothing ).

Recklessismymiddlename · 07/10/2026 10:11

But not many rich powerful men unfortunately. And only one dead man and a British woman behind bars.

Constantrunner · 07/10/2026 10:20

Yes the Charles not funding the court case is such an obvious lie.
And royal supporters are still defending Andrew and in the course of doing so, repeating rape myths.

Ukisgaslit · 07/10/2026 10:22

Yes it’s true of course that many other rich men are implicated but I find this remark can be used as ‘whataboutery’ ie deflection. I’m not suggesting that you are trying to deflect from Andrew @Recklessismymiddlename

Many rich men associated with Epstein cut ties with Epstein when he was first investigated by the police in 2005 .
Andrew did not

The other men were not part of a publicly funded family with deep institutional protections. - protections which are still helping Andrew today .

I agree Constantrunner

I don’t think anyone should feel sorry for him.

I do feel sorry for AMW as a child but not as a privileged adult with lovely homes, resources, leisure.

Lots of people who suffered SA as a child, go on to do good in the world and with all of the resources available to him, he had every opportunity to do so. Hell, he could have just opted to live a materially rich life that wasn’t so exploitative of others and tried to do a decent job representing British trade interests overseas but he couldn’t even do that, and allowed his arrogance and greed to dominate his actions.

Recklessismymiddlename · 07/10/2026 10:31

Of course I’m not trying to deflect @Ukisgaslit
i find him deplorable.

IMO he should have accepted his punishment and taken it on the chin and shouldn’t be trying to weasel out of anything.

I don’t think he will be done for the Epstein or Virginia allegations as notorious difficult to prove, but I’m more hopeful on the trade envoy allegations, however we know have the technicalities, to deal with, so who knows.

simpsonthecat · 07/10/2026 10:35

⬆️ This 100 times over and I've said it time and time again on here.

Without the furore in the US about the Epstein Files (that is still ongoing) we would know very little about AMW and what he was up to.

"....prince Andrew is accused of raping sex trafficked teenagers and being present at an "orgy" "

Do you honestly believe that? I think it's a ridiculous accusation.

Lowrie's book was scurrilous.

LBFseBrom
would you care to lay out in detail in what particular way Lownie’s book Entitled is scurrilous please?

Lownie didn’t set out to write a book that was filled with of scandal; he wrote about his conclusions following four years of meticulous, rigorous, research, relying on court papers, freedom of information disclosures, ex-staffers and correspondence. Virtually every reviewer has praised Lownie’s thorough methodology. Others described it as “lawyerly” and “convincing” .

He not only laid out in forensic detail AMW’s greedy exploitation of his official role and others, including vulnerable women, for own private gain and pleasure, and the details of AMW’s relationship with Epstein, which went on a lot longer than AMW admitted to in the BBC interview, he set the entire story of AMW’s and SF’s extraordinary greed and entitlement against a background of a wider cover up and institutional decay.

I think what AL discovered was a shock, even to him!

And when the Epstein files were released a short while after publication, they backed up virtually every single detail that Lownie has set out in Entitled.

I simply cannot understand how and why intelligent people are still trying to deny Lownie’s credibility and findings and are still choosing to believe the BP spun versions of these narratives?

Is it out of deference and a mistaken belief that holding some members of the RF to account over their nefarious actions somehow damages the UK?

To me the absolutely opposite is true. If you want a strong group of countries that is respected across the world, then one of it’s most powerful institutions needs to be trustworthy and credible first and foremost, and operate on a basis of accountability and transparency.

Yes! This! A hundred times over!

They would probably still be covering it up now had it not been for the Epstein trials, which begs the question, what else are they covering up?

I am not denying that some of the work the RF does is excellent and very sound, but every time any decent journalist or author, with any determination, probes the detailed inner workings in specific areas, whether it’s related to their charity fund-raising and rich connections, the Duchies, or the legal and financial framework in which they operate; nothing good is ever found!

Yes I thought that was a ridiculous statement too.

If AMW has one pot of money from different sources, who is going to ascertain and police which bit he uses for what?

Ukisgaslit · 07/10/2026 11:17

@Chocolatethumbprints

Rotten to the core in my opinion

Ukisgaslit · 07/10/2026 11:22

Newname26 · 07/10/2026 07:34

May or may not be true.

But i 100% agree it would be impossible to prove. And impossible to prove he knew the girls were trafficked.

Really ?
Epstein was first investigated by Florida police in 2005 and convicted of child solicitation in 2008 .

Did Andrew cut ties with him? No he did not .

simpsonthecat · 07/10/2026 11:30

The bottom line is... anyone who criticises the Royal Family, even its worst member like AMW, will be discredited in some way. It makes Royalists and Monarchists uncomfortable that so much can be wrong, hidden, covered up and they are therefore on the defensive.
We see it with unpleasant criticism of Virginia Guiffre. And of course Lownie.

Entitled took years to write, his sources of which there were scores agreed to be named. I believe them to be over 100. They ranged from business owners, ex friends, ex Military and royal navy colleagues, Palace household staff, business and trade associates, diplomatic officials... all willing to be named.

How the book is painted as 'scurrilous' god alone knows

Honestly even the leaked minutes of a trade meeting involving Prince Andrew makes it clear what he is like. And these are the official minutes which like all minutes will have left out asides and jokes.

Constantrunner · 07/10/2026 11:46

@simpsonthecat I agree anyone who criticises the royal family is viciously attacked. I still remember that black woman who exposed lady husseys obvious racism.
She was absolutely hounded. The charity she worked for was hounded so badly she had to stay at home. In the end she appeared in front of cameras with the royals and said everything was fine. Purely because people bouncing her were destroying her life.
Angela Raynor was also hounded and had to resign as deputy prime minister because she had raised concerns about legislation she was being asked to vote on that meant prince andrew remained in the line of succession.
Anyone who criticises is hounded so badly to put off anyone else doing the same. It's vicious.

Lowrie's book was scurrilous.

As has been pointed out, these accusations emerged in court documents, a long time before Entitled was written.

And the RF obviously thought that there was enough credibility in her story to pay her £12 million.

Prince Andrew joined Epstein’s private-island orgy, accuser claims

‘I was around 18 at the time. Epstein, Andy, approximately eight other young girls, and I had sex together’

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/prince-andrew-jeffrey-epstein-orgy-virginia-roberts-giuffre-channel-4-dispatches-a9164566.html

Constantrunner · 07/10/2026 11:59

Yes although royal supporters claim it's normal to pay out £12 million to someone if you are totally innocent and there is zero evidence if any wrong doing.

Ukisgaslit · 07/10/2026 12:17

I remember the attack on Angela Raynor .

Andrew is STILL in the line of succession.

NewspaperTaxis · 07/10/2026 12:37

simpsonthecat · 07/10/2026 08:20

They were innocent.

I know, just saying either guilty or innocent, a person can be put in a position where they want to take their own lives.
Though with the State, you can get to a place where it's even money - whether the person kills themselves or is killed with it made to look like suicide.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/10/2026 13:01

For me though, the outrage is that this behaviour was allowed to continue for eleven years minimum (in reality it went on much longer) during the time AMW served as trade envoy, with seemingly no outside official scrutiny. How was this allowed to happen?

There's only one realistic answer to that, @Chocolatethumbprints - it was allowed to continue because the family were content for it to do so, and only made an appearance of "doing something" when public opinion became consumed with it

As for the tired old story about Charles objecting to Andrew's trade envoy role, in the absence of any public remark how does anyone know this is so? Predictably the palace are doing quite a lot to "distance" him from this and that, but I'd have thought it obvious by now that this doesn't necessarily reflect the reality

Ukisgaslit · 07/10/2026 12:17

Constantrunner · 07/10/2026 13:07

Some royal supporters have claimed the royal family knew nothing about Andrew at a point where I was reading about Andrew being friends with Maxwell and Epstein in the media.
It still amazes me just how much some of them will lie to defend members of the royal family.
