The royal family
CrocusesFlowering · 26/02/2026 18:11

Yes William was rubbing shoulders with Prince Bonesaw - the man who sanctioned the murder of Jamal Kashoggi 8 years ago.
But of course the arms trade with Saudi Arabia makes it easy to forget and forgive .

Beechtrees19 · 26/02/2026 18:14

It’s such a shame she isn’t getting the media coverage she deserves.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 26/02/2026 18:48

She really is a good egg isn’t she, I remember watching the Daily Mail royal channel and Rebecca English saying unfortunately she doesn’t get the column inches and it annoyed me, write about her then Rebecca, it’s your fault!

BigWillyLittleTodger · 26/02/2026 18:51

I also like the way Sophie and Edward didn’t accept Prince and Princess titles for their children, very wise.

guarantee that this thread would not have been created if not for Harry and Meghan’s visit to Jordan, that’s how fake royalists are. how many tours has Sophie been on? completely ignored, but now folks want to pretend to care 😂😂

what an absolute joke.

So true people just love to bitch about other people thats why Sophie doesnt get any threads about the work she does. Noone is interested in discussing positive things otherwise they would of created these threads before. This thread is started not to admire what Sophie is doing but as a snark to say...see this is what a royal tour is as a re ike to H&M in Jordan.

What a shame that is the only way a thread on Sophie will be started.

Thank you @Mylovelygreendress - the Duchess of Edinburgh does a lot of work with charities for women and girls who have suffered abuse, and her work is often overlooked

The 2 day Kenya visit comes directly following 2 days in Somalia at the request of the Foreign Office

Which makes it even more surprising that she hasnt pressuded or advocated foe the palace to release a statement apologising for calling VG a liar and blackening her name when we now know she was telling the truth. How can you be supporting charities of women and girls who have been abused and not be absolutely silent about the way the RF itself has gone about calling a victim od abuse and sex trafficking a liar

You have no idea what Sophie has or hasn’t advocated for.

RE has said would love to write about Sophie and is frustrated that she isn’t allowed to because she doesn’t have editorial control.

Ah fair enough, what a shame though, I wonder if Sophie gets frustrated that her work about VAWAG is not highlighted in the media, particularly now.

And this right here, constant attacks, bringing h and m into a thread not about them ( by their own fans no less ) , is exactly why people don’t bother posting threads about them.

I'm thinking you don't know much about the changes made in laws as regards women in Saudi in the past 8 years or so?

So they can now drive their cars and travel abroad etc. but many elements of Sharia Law still exist. I don't think that equates to equality for women in that country yet. And they still behead people in public too. A lot of Royals seem to like the Gulf States don't they? And I accept that W's trip was at Government request.

Their kids also seem to be very normal.

I like Sophie, she's about the only one that has actually had to work for living and it shows tbh, she's always done more engagements year on year than Camilla and Catherine (even when her children were young).

I think she's been a good influence on Edward as well, he was a pompous prat before they met.

I’m just shocked she’s 61 already! She looks good for it, definitely at least a decade younger. I guess that’s what a life with few hardships can do for you.

Sophie didn’t have the easiest path to motherhood. She nearly died during childbirth and also had an ectopic pregnancy. So not entirely a life of wine and roses.

No, not entirely but she did all of that without having to return to her Band 4 job in the NHS within 3 weeks as she had the worries of bills to pay and employment to keep. That’s why I said “few hardships”. There’s no denying it’s easier being Sophie than most other women in the UK. But, them’s the breaks. On the whole Britain wants a monarchy 🤷🏼‍♀️

Isn't Sophie the one whose motorcade killed a pedestrian as it was speeding through London? I'm always a bit surprised that it's considered acceptable for anyone to travel through built up areas like that.

Not necessarily. I have several years on her and look as good 😉 Maybe I am privileged too and had the services of Gareth Beynon too albeit on the NHS.

RainbowBagels · 27/02/2026 13:03

I think she doesn't get reported on because people outside RF threads just aren't interested in them. If you want publicity for your charity or some event and you invite Meghan and Harry the worlds press, while berating them will write tonnes of columns, thousands of people will comment, people know about refugees in Jordan. Invite any of the others and no one notices or cares really, and the reason the DM's editor doesn't allow her to talk about Sophie is because he knows no one cares either! Sophie is paid very well to do these trips. It's not philanthropy. Just like all the Royals. Would they do it if they weren't getting the Sovereign Grant?

NotReadyForChristmas2025 · 27/02/2026 13:55

Lovely

TatianaTwinkletoes · 27/02/2026 15:01

Has anyone read this book? I really admire Sophie and I think she, and Edward, are 2 of the unsung heroes of the RF.

Listening to his response to a question he was asked about Andrew, I'm not entirely sure he's not still a bit Mr Pompous.

That said I do like what Sophie is doing here and she seems to be a woman who has made up her mind to embrace her role and privilege.

I am quite surprised by the gravity of it, meeting the Kenyan President as party of the Kenyan-UK strategic partnership she is clearly trusted with delicate matters of protocol

So she was actually asked by the foreign and commonwealth office to stop over in Somalia because her expertise? She clearly is considered extremely knowledgeable in this field then.

I confess when people said she advocates a
In the field of VAWG I thought it was at a relatively basic, royal favour level.

I love her dresses, they're very carefully and sensitively chosen and are gorgeous.

I am really surprised though, that none of it is seen as patronising, but maybe that's my western dialogue being transferred inappropriately. Clearly Royalty still has symbolism abroad.

To be fair to the man he was put on the spot in front of the audience.

Sophie's has also done a lot of work in Africa for many years for the cause of avoidable blindness (their daughter was born with an eye condition following a premature birth) so she's obviously built up a rapport within these African countries.
