Important green spaces (but not the 150 acres I've fenced off)

William says green spaces are so important for people's mental health.

How does this chime with the 150 acres of land around his latest forever home that's been accessible by the public for the benefit of their wellbeing, but now they have no access to?

Many people have loved the open space they wandered in over many years, only to find it now shut off. I'd be sad and upset if part of my local area was suddenly inaccessible. I expect locals' mental health has been affected.

The Windsors have access to any number of houses that could have been the forever home, but no, they wanted this one.

Which also needed lots of work done on it apparently, as does every other new abode.

Go out in green space, but not the green space I've decided I want.

Sycophants for pointing out they are simply doing what many people do, and quite legally?

I don't know any farmers, for example, that allow anyone and everyone to walk wherever they want on the farmer's land. I see plenty of signs asking walkers to keep to the footpath.

Private tenancies are time limited. It might end with the tenant choosing to.leave, it might end because the landlord wants the property back.

The Environmental Centre closed as usual for the winter, and will be relocated.

RainbowRainyDays · 18/12/2025 12:11

From next May private tenancies won't be time limited, nor will landlords be able to evict with a Section 21. Whether that will apply to anything connected with the RF remains to be seen.

I agree with you OP.

Really? I own a farm, can I do whatever I want with my land? Build on it?

No, I thought not. Elite entitlement.

Good point actually, never thought of that. And it begs the question… should it be their land? Whole different debate but he certainly didn’t pay for it, I assume someone in your family paid for your farm at some point, I doubt it was gifted to them / you. And I assume you produce something which is used to feed us and generate income and then tax is paid which helps pay for public services and so on and so forth.

But they aren't building on it, they are allowing the public to access it.

Slightlyamusedandsilly hasn't come back yet to confirm that yes, she allows the public to access all her land whenever and wherever they want, rather than keeping to legal rights of way. And i suspect that she won't. I grew up in a rural area and none of the farmers would say their farms were open to all, everywhere. More likely to grumble about people not keeping to the footpaths...

I don’t feel qualified or knowledgable enough on that to comment tbh, I know when to bow out 😂

Baital · 18/12/2025 13:03

I wonder if Slightly inherited the farm without inheritance tax being due... a benefit farmers have had since 1992, and which many are now complaining about Gvnt plans to abolish.

It's become a convenient way of avoiding inheritance tax, not available sadly to us mere mortals who only have our family home. A much loved family home, that will be wrenched away - much like the evil landlords do to their poor tenants!

drivinmecrazy · 18/12/2025 13:12

Where is the proof that W&K stamped their feet and demanded that they have an effective ring of steel imposed on their home?
im quite confident that your ire should be laid at the door of the security advisors, who will have assessed the easiest way to protect one of the most high profile families in the world.

Just to add I’m not a raving royalist but I just don’t see this as them demanding a buffer from us plebs.

And I’m sure that those who are being asked to leave are being well compensated. It’s not like they’ll be out on their ears and have their names down on the social housing list.

there are many sticks to beat them with, this isn’t one.

There are many many people in this country living in property and on land they didn't personally buy. Land inherited from families. Should that be their land, their house?

I've had a quick Google, but don't claim to be an expert.

The Government website says 'landlords own circumstances can sometimes change'. The new act doesn't prevent landlords reclaiming properties. It prevents it within the first 12 months of a tenancy, and increases the notice period. There are a number of clauses for either mandatory or discretionary reoccupation by the landlord. So Section 21 (eviction without the landlord giving a reason) is replaced by the landlord needing to give one of a list of reasons.

I doubt it will make much difference to the Windsor Great Park tenants affected. None of whom seem to have complained, unless I have missed something?

Hello
Thats how it works

As it is this decision was not made by them it was made by their security because most people don’t have the paparazzi staring at them day and night personally I’m thankful I can have my privacy without huge fences and security guards
