LibDems attempting to table debate about RF finances

In the Guardian, sources have said the LibDems are trying to get an official debate tabled about the RF's finances in general, not just Andrew, and the secretive nature of them.

Hope they're successful. It would be a start. Mind you the article does mention getting the King to agree 🙄

So sick of the fawning. The RF say they don't want to take up parliamentary time when there are more important things to discuss. Handy that!

I really hope they succeed!

It’s outrageous that we are not allowed to question matters relating to individuals within the RF, who when funded by the tax-payer, allegedly broke corruption laws many times!

Why should the RF’s position protect them from facing the same legal measures that any other ordinary civil servant would face in the same situation?

CrimsonStoat · 27/10/2025 11:52

I hope they succeed too.

And whilst they're organising this question, I hope that it's watertight so that it stands the best chance of being accepted.

It's ridiculous that no one can ask questions in a normal way, and that a process that seems skewed towards failure is the only thing MPs can try.

The RF are getting into an ever deepening hole…

Absolutely agree.

This is an important issue to the UK people, despite how much the RF are trying to downplay it.

It goes right to the heart of the relationship between Parliament and Monarchy in today's modern society and accountability to the British tax payer during a Cost of Living crisis.

UK citizens are burdened with paying more and more tax to support the UK, whilst those at the top of the tree are unaccountable in their financial obligations.

It is absolutely central to the important business of the UK and the fact the RF are trying to gaslight us is really hypocritical.

Questions need to be answered and it's time the RF were more transparent in their financial accountability.

I wish the Lib Dem's would concentrate on problems which affect the country , this is more showboating. Plus do they have the bollockx to actually go for the actual powerful Epstein men, Not just a royal foolish fall guy.
Standing up for women's rights would be a start. stop taking funding from pharmaceutical companies who produce puberty blockers

Got to disagree.

The relationship between parliament and the monarchy is important, and it seems that the monarchy has regained a lot of powers behind the scenes that it lost when Charles I and II were around.

Either we have a constitutional monarchy or we don't, and if we do there needs to be a whole lot more scrutiny about their finances.

Not forgetting the influence they have on Bills, which they shouldn't have either!

Non of that is something PA can influence. I can't help thinking that this is a pointless distraction from real political problems . The economy, NHS education , illegal immigration .prison crowding I'd think better of a debate about criminalising every man who visits a prostitute and helping thise women caught up in it.

It's actually much bigger than Prince Andrew. It's really not about going after one individual but the institution that has actively covered up and supported him.

It's actually a first step towards holding the big institutions to account and greater transparency.

How can we protect women's rights if one of the ruling family has engaged in violating women's rights and we allow a cover up? how can the work by members of the Royal Family to support women's abuse victims have any credibility? As the King is head of the Church of England, how can it have any moral standing if there is no accountability and transparency?

All of the issues you raise @Contemporaneouslyagog are actually linked to the issue in hand. So it is very important Parliament has the opportunity to demand answers for the public interest and hold the RF more accountable.

Nothing operates in isolation.

The article is about the royal family as a whole.
