The royal family

Where does Andrew get his money from?

This is an ongoing topic where Andrew's income remains a mystery for the most part, but according to the BBC sometimes court cases involving other people mention him.

This particular court case talks about a payment made a few months after the Maitlis interview. And also mentions two payments made to Eugenie who said it was a birthday gift from a family friend - the money paying for a party for her mother. All £25,000 of it!!!

The King's brother was paid thousands by a businessman linked to a wealth management firm which ripped off pension savers.

Probably from his biological father Lord Porchester.

That might mean he inherited £50m instead of the £5bn or whatever Charles and William got! It's the royal family, chances are they are just as rich - or richer since it is kept such a big secret - than Trump, Gates, Bezos, Musk etc.

As if any of us knows.

Isn't her will sealed for 100 years?

And nowhere therein will all her offshore finances ever be breathed a word about.

APTPT · 25/10/2025 10:09

Exactly the scrutiny that his jug eared brother and baldy nephew would not wish to be turned on their own finances

tinydynamine · 25/10/2025 10:12

I just don't get why influential people have allegedly given money to a person who comes across as unpleasant and dim. What did they hope to gain?

estellacandance · 25/10/2025 10:50

Chinese spies & Saudis?

The kudos of connection to the British Royal family I suppose.

Sidebeforeself · 25/10/2025 10:59

I cannot imagine a scenario where I would take “ gifts from friends” like this.

ShenandoahRiver · 25/10/2025 11:04

Who is behind the government backed shell company set up to obscure royal investments from public scrutiny??
There will be zero chance that William will be on that and be hopping mad about it.
He is as bad as the rest of them when it comes to hiding money.

Which is what Sarah thought would net her Kevin Costner :)

Interesting question. What exactly did they gain…..

There’s no such thing as a free lunch, it leaves you in hock…’Remember those few million I gave you, well…you know there is this very small favour we have to ask, grant it & there’s another few million to come’.

They are buying influence and favours. Similarly - why do banks/law firms/consultancies pay huge sums to have ex politicians on their payroll. Having a black book of contacts has a value.

And Andrew’s black book included his mother QE2, his older brother the heir, various government ministers …

He probably promised special tea parties.

MrsLeonFarrell · 25/10/2025 11:27

The point of Andrew's finances is that no one knows. Maybe we'll find out but I doubt it.

I don't buy the argument of poor Andrew, the spare, left without a bean to struggle his way through the world. He would have to be record breakingly thick not to make a plan for his future. He grew up in aristocratic circles where the money always follows the heir. Most spares, like Anne and Edward have a plan beyond pander to dubious wealthy people.

Exactly.

Obviously absolutely not now for Andrew; but surely the minor royals' celebrity must be worth a fair old amount if they exploit it?

There are loads of tacky and/or shameless but not immoral or illegal ways that they could cash in. Video tours of their homes, shallow books 'written by' them, selling crested or monogrammed teatowels, endorsing (legitimate) businesses, TV adverts, opening supermarkets, recording audio books, after dinner speeches etc.

Prince Edward did that with Ardent Productions and, not that he needs the money, so did Charles with Duchy Originals.

They can make an absolute packet just because of who they were born... and if the monarch/more major royals don't like the low-rent impression it may give of the monarchy, well, they can always come to an arrangement instead, can't they?!

MrsLeonFarrell · 25/10/2025 15:04

Duchy Originals gives all its profits to charity. I wouldn't describe that as tacky or shameless

Zippedydodah · 25/10/2025 16:00

Andrew’s been linked to the Chinese spy scandal, a very dodgy Turkish politician who he helped to get a UK passport, it’s rumoured that the Russians and Mossad have connections to him through Andrew’s dubious business connections in the Middle East and Kurdistan.
I greatly suspect there’s a hideous amount of stuff yet to surface and you ain’t seen nothing yet.

And I doubt we ever will see it. Maybe our grandchildren will when there's enough distance between today's RF and George's heir, if this circus is still going by then.

OK, fair enough, that one isn't necessarily tacky - but it's still a sideline to exploit the name and celebrity of Charles.

He could easily have used a more anonymous sounding name, so that it would purely stand or fall on the quality of its produce, but he clearly went for the cash-in option.

I don't know how much it makes for charity, but it must be a tiny, tiny fraction of what Charles could just hand over from his own pocket (the vast majority accumulated simply from being born into one particular family) and not even miss it.

Record breakingly thick...yup thats Andrew just like a lot of wealthy but stupid people they never think the money will end. So many celebrities hemorrhage money thinking they will always be rich and headline news, then a tax bill, default on mortgage, lease car etc and suddenly they are penniless with no plan b.
They can't leave A penniless for fear of what he will do, it's going to get really messy.

Did anyone else know that Beatrice, who has been known to advise her father from time to time, for better or worse, describes herself as a ‘private equity analyst’?

She is the sole director and employer/employee of the semi-eponymous BY-EQ. Same postal address as a word salad charitable foundation of which she’s a trustee.

ShenandoahRiver · 25/10/2025 18:59

Yes - had read that… all very odd really

I do not in anyway think this is a good thing, but having said that. The way she manages her finances is probably not that different to the rest of the world she lives in. Rich people get really good at tax loop holes and moving money around (or their financial advisers do). I would bet good money that Andrew doesn't understand what all the financial fuss is about because everyone he associates with does exactly the same. He hasn't realised that whilst Mr X can get away with it he is expected to have far more financial probity and at the same time under far more scrutiny because he is a member of the royal family.

Rich people evade tax and obtain money from dubious sources every single day and the papers ignore it. He can't, and shouldn't be able to, do that and get away with it.
