Some interesting snippets here. He comes across as very sensible, grounded and decent. I was slightly surprised to hear him mention Harry’s name!

Oh come on! As if William doesn't aldo have hours to fill! Compared to people with full time jobs and young children, or even compared to other Royals he has absolutely acres of time. His kids are all at school, he doesn't have to do any life admin at all. If he wanted to just study something in depth he has every single resource at his disposal. He doesn't want to do it. And fair enough, he doesn't have to. It makes no difference and he will be overpraised whether he does it or not. . I was just pointing out the difference between what see as Charles and Philip ( in the Prince Albert mould) of just wanting to learn for learning sake and education.

You have literally made all of this up. You have no idea. 😂

Talk about missing the point @ozarina

Nope it's relevant but then I'm a Geography graduate 😂😂😂

Talk about missing the point @ozarina

There’s a substantial corps of obtuse pedants on Mumsnet, who seem to sit around waiting to pounce on any minor error (actual or perceived) and correct it. Such posts are entirely irrelevant to the point(s) at issue and are massively irritating.

Nope it's glaringly obvious when people are parroting things when they can't even get the basics right. I would be embarrassed to make such an error while sitting up on my high horse criticising others.

I'm not on a horse, so please get your facts right whilst parroting things.

🙂

We’re all making everything up about them-we know practically nothing. We are fed carefully curated snippets by their PR. And by the unofficial PR on places like this-the “they do soooo much and work soooo hard!!” brigade.

There is a world of difference between business in the Middle East and the Far East.

Yes but what else do we go on ? It's the same with every person in public life. We can only assess on what is seen and written and results. Time will tell.

Piglet89 · 04/10/2025 14:27

WE ALL KNOW @CrimsonStoatWAS TALKING ABOUT SAUDI! She mentioned the actual jurisdiction, so we know the business dealings which are relevant: those in Saudi. Far east was a genuine error, which she has acknowledged, and continually raising this is derailing the thread.

A good lesson for you too then - get your facts right?

⬆️ This

How wonderful to have all the Palace employees, Government and media covering for you that then dupes the royalists into such ridiculous support of them.

We don’t need to make stuff up with Harry as he has told us plenty himself !

The interview is a carefully curated peice of PR designed to encourage us all to view William, and his family, in a good light, and that the country will be in good hands when he inherits the title and even more wealth.

And for the most part the PR works. After all, it's only a relatively few dedicated people who try to dig deeper.

The fantasy is still more important than the reality.

PixieandMe · 04/10/2025 14:40

My God his mannerisms are his mother. Lovely to see.

@CatchingtheCat Try reading Power and the Palace by Valentine Low to see what the RF can do with soft power.

I also think it is a good idea for PW to visit his holdings so that he can see any needed changes that will positively affect his tenants.

Indeed.

What always interests me on these threads are the numbers of people insisting that the Prince of Wales does no work, and how obscure the workings of the Duchy are.

To the contrary - there is evidence there if people wish to look: parliamentary briefing, Acts of Parliament, Royal Foundation trustee reports, local (not national) media reports.

Just because people don't wish to look doesn't mean it's not there.

Aren't other people's lives generally obscure? I have no idea what William does day to day and how much time the working part of his life takes up. But I could say the same about quite a few people I actually know. No one walks in another man's shoes. What I would find enormously difficult he may find easy and vice versa.

Royal finances are obviously tangled and complicated and need reform. But I don't blame William or Charles for that particularly. In a country ruled mostly by precedent it can be hard to know what is really going on. Look at all the fuss over Boris and other politicians redecoration of public buildings (and in the US Melania caused a stir on this front as well). If there was ever the political will to take a good look at the Sovereign Grant and the Crown Estate, and if William or Charles blocked it, then I would start blaming them but there is no evidence either of them is doing that.

I thought this too. Was surprised because I suppose I'd always thought of Harry as being more like her, but now I see it's William.

Eugene Levy will be happy, the interview has hit the top 10 everywhere.

Ranked #4 in UK, #5 in US, #5 in Oz, #3 in Canada.

Overall great and positive reviews and ratings.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/10/2025 19:52

the Middle East and China seem to have the RF in thrall - presumably because that is where the moolah is..

I've mentioned this myself, @padronpepper, in the context of Charles's many visits to the middle east and what seems his almost complete neglect of the smaller Commonwealth nations

No wonder mummy had to ask them to give him the job when his own reign arrived: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-43820328

Skived them when it suited even then:

I know this is petty but I can’t believe EL went into an English pub and ordered a guinness! Wouldn’t have been more appropriate to try something local? I may have a skewed perspective as dh is a big real ale person and would go mad in a pub like that! (He’s actually dying to do a pub crawl in Windsor!)

It is in trust for the prince of wales to run in order to generate his income. It is linked to the position not the individual. Hence the King must now rent High Grove from his son. The PoW cannot sell it for his personal gain and KC couldn’t take High Grove out of the Duchy (I am sure there are plenty of princes who would have happily sold it all if they could).

Until three years ago C3 was paying rent to his landlord the Duchy and having it recycled back into his own pocket as Duchy profit.

Not the only bit of creative accounting he ever indulged in either.

Years back he sold trees he claimed to be his personal property and grown on Duchy land to the Duchy trousering some £2.3 m in the process.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2005/jan/30/monarchy.immigrationpolicy

(no idea why the strapline to that is 'immigration policy' but the article details the transaction)

Probably worth noting too how he claimed Cam's personal costs as business expenses before they were married along with 28 personal staff and his polo ponies:

The prince of property and his £460m business empire

MPs are to probe the complex financial affairs of the Duchy of Cornwall that let Charles sell his own trees to himself and pocket the cash.

CathyorClaire · 04/10/2025 20:33

The latest of which I think was the money they make from public services which are on their knees. Only changing when they got found out.

While W has apparently waived a stonking £10k a year in grassroots rents I don't think I've seen any reports C3 has made a gesture even of that minimal scope.

Never complain, never explain...

CathyorClaire · 04/10/2025 20:48

I also think it is a good idea for PW to visit his holdings so that he can see any needed changes that will positively affect his tenants.

I think it might be quite nice for him to see the environmental impacts of the mining rights granted before and since he inherited the Duchy and explain to us how they square with his Earthshot posturing advocacy.

TBF I was a bit surprised W ordered a sweet cider.

Unless I've missed Windsor being underrated for its side product apple production I'd have thought a local brew might have been more appropriate there too.
