They are paying for the move and rent at no extra cost to the taxpayer, it is understood.

Wills and Kate are funding all renovations themselves and will have no live-in staff.

Good for them.

William & Kate moving to 8-bed ‘forever home’ as they plan ‘fresh start’

PRINCE William is moving his family to a “forever home” in a bid to build happy memories after three tough years. Eight-bedroom Forest Lodge, nestled in Windsor Great Park, is where William, Kate a…

Seems they’re always moving here and there.

spanieleyes · 16/08/2025 07:25

I moved 20 times before I was 21, so they are home-stays in comparison!
Adelaide Cottage has 4 bedrooms so it’s hardly surprising if they want a bit more room, if I could afford a bigger house, I’d have one too!

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 16/08/2025 07:28

I did always think the other place looked quite small. Hope they’re happy here.

BetweenTwoFerns · 16/08/2025 07:32

Seems like a plan without any flaws.

ishimbob · 16/08/2025 07:36

The "no live in staff" is such a ridiculous way to try and spin them as relatable - they don't need live in staff on the Windsor estate as their staff can live a few steps away, giving them the best of both worlds, their staff but also their privacy.

Which is fine - we would all choose the same! - but it's the spinning of it as "oh we don't have live in staff, we're so down to earth" that gets on my nerves

Holdingonfornow · 16/08/2025 08:09

Much better for the kids I imagine, growing up somewhere that feels like a family home, rather than some using a few rooms within a big draughty, stately home

TatianaTwinkletoes · 16/08/2025 08:45

Seems like they are moving for the right reasons (more space for a growing family, more space to entertain as the P&PoW grow into their roles, a place where the children are happy). It's a lovely home and I hope they are happy here making happy memories.

You do realize they didn’t write this article themselves, right? If you have an issue with that framing, the blame lies with the media, not with them.

However, ‘the media’ will have got this info via a Wales Family press release.

caringcarer · 16/08/2025 08:55

As their kids become older and need more space it seems sensible to move to a bigger home. They seem to be paying themselves so not burdening the tax payer. Seems like a smart move. I wonder why they didn't move into this house in 2022 though?

The article makes it clear that the Sun got this story through old-fashioned journalism- by combing through planning permission applications at Windsor. Once they noticed the one for Forest Lodge they will have approached the Kensington Palace press team saying they are going to write this story and asking for comment. The press team then comment (“moving to forever home after tough few years” “funding renovations themselves” “in by Christmas” etc). The Sun writes the story and pats themself on the back for getting to break an exclusive.

That is exactly how the cycle works for any person or institution that is newsworthy.

Yes exactly - W+K's staff brief this stuff out to the press, that is the way this works. They will have specifically chosen to brief it out in this way. They have briefed out this info before too.

Lifestooshort71 · 16/08/2025 09:01

Looks a lovely house and seems perfect for them. There will always be the bitter and jealous to knock any move they make but I, for one, hope they'll be very happy there.

Serenster · 16/08/2025 09:03

Again, the Sun article reports: “Planning applications seen by The Sun show work has already started on minor internal and external renovations at the 328-year-old, Grade II-listed lodge”. That is clearly how the Sun discovered the news.

I know. I work in the media.

TBF, the story has been kicking around for a while. Not the first I’ve heard of it. Any journo with a royal brief will have been looking at the planning apps to see if any developments.

Serenster · 16/08/2025 09:09

So you will know the difference between a press release and comments made on the record to an individual reporter then, right?

Yes. It’s just a bit early on a Saturday morning to get into the nitty gritty of briefed and prepped lines.

But this is what you said. It’s inaccurate.

OneSharpFinch · 16/08/2025 09:14

So not Royal Lodge then, wasn't it reported that Charles was trying to evict Andrew so that William could have that.

Royal lodge is an ugly mish mash.

Profhilodisaster · 16/08/2025 09:27

They have got the name of their current house wrong, isn't it Anmer Hall not Amber ?

MrsLeonFarrell · 16/08/2025 09:35

Looks like a good choice of home for them

MrsFinkelstein · 16/08/2025 09:37

As long as taxpayers aren't funding it then they can crack right on.

Adelaide Cottage will be snapped up on the rental market now.

They clearly like the area and it makes sense to have something a bit bigger as the kids grow and their roles as P&PoW mean more entertaining etc.

It's always the press that make the big deal of "no live in staff". They clearly have staff and will always have staff but want as much private family time as possible. Once they're King & Queen they won't have a choice. And it won't mean extra security.

Briantheguitargod · 16/08/2025 09:41

don't blame them for moving from their tiny 4 bedroom house

ImAPreMadonna · 16/08/2025 09:41
