William the Quiet Disruptor - Future of the Monarchy

I just read this Sky News article “My Week with Prince William: The Quiet Disruptor” and found it really interesting.

The article paints a picture of someone who’s trying to do things differently, more of a “quiet disruptor” than a traditional royal. He seems to want to modernise the monarchy, focusing less on ribbon-cutting and more on community projects and real social impact. It might not be flashy, but it feels more in touch with what people care about today. He wants to be seen as a trustworthy global leader who uses his influence for good in a time when there is a lot of distrust in leadership worldwide.

It talks about how, although some still label him “work-shy” because he schedules his engagements around his children, most of the people interviewed actually saw that as a positive. They praised him for putting his family first and being a present dad.

It acknowledges that not everyone will be happy with this new version of monarchy, and some people will criticise the change in ethos.

I suppose time will tell whether this new approach will change anything long term. Charles also said he wanted to modernise, so let’s see it sticks this time. But it’s an interesting read if you’re curious about how William’s trying to shape his role.

My week with Prince William, the quiet disruptor

Rhiannon Mills, Sky News royal correspondent, spent the week shadowing Prince William, seeing first hand the potential blueprint for the future king.

I am quite surprised at the blatant falsehoods regarding W's popularity in the US.

As of May 2025 it is H&M with significant PR challenges with over one in five negative on H and one in four negative on M. Good luck to the new PR team!

Americans rate Prince William higher than Harry, Charles in new poll

@jeffgoldblum in modern personal branding speak a ‘disruptor’ is seen as a positive thing. Tech nerds like to claim they are disruptors, it makes them sound edgy and interesting.

You do know that Les Miserables depicts the July rebellion of 1832, don’t you?

I’ll keep it short, but the monarchy won that one 🤭🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

Oh thanks very much @ARainyNightInSoho!
I had no idea, I was going by the old ( fashioned now!) meaning. 🙏

Most people would never have heard of any of the initiatives without Earthshot. The prize ensures funding and interest for a slew of worthwhile projects.

Yet ES has failed to register other than in passing with knowledgeable names in the field and has indeed attracted mild criticism for its model.

I posted this artcle on another thread but it's worth a read:

Who cares? I mean if you offer people a choice of two dog foods they will rate them even if they don’t have a dog and are not in the market for one. I can assure you that neither Hand M nor prince william and K make any kind of serious ripple in coverage. There are tik tok influencers who are more influential in their teens.

This is a huge country and it is slmost entirely ignorant of what happens outside its borders—sad to say. If some mouth breathing goober “chooses” William and Kate in a phone survey of celebrity faves, or even more absurdly an online poll, what does Great Britain win? Absolutely fucking nothing.

I’m going to be honest, I don’t like Les Miserables at all 🫣 I’m more of a Six/Book of Mormon kinda girl.

Sorry-@jeffgoldblumI didn’t realise you didn’t know that! I think that one of the few ways a member of the RF could actually make a difference is by being a disruptor- the person who challenges the orthodoxy- because effectively he would have nothing to lose. But sadly I think any attempts William makes will be short circuited by the “suits”.

Not to mention they aren't the Royal Family of America. It's nothing to do with anyone if they are popular in America. I doubt Americans would want to reinstate the British Monarchy ( apart from.the weirdest ones). What does it matter to him if he's more popular in America than Harry? An pretty unpopular person all round, partly because hes a product of his family- entitled and out of touch?

Because you've opted in to the royalist tax which you consider worthwhile and I haven't. And I want out of this hypothecation as it's not the NHS or defence. You want it you pay for it , fine - but I''ll give my 2 quid to a homeless tramp.😅

You care very much to disparage people as "mouth breathing goobers".

Democrats are running regular polling to look for a front runner for 2028...are the people who answer surveys and are engaged mouth breathing goobers?

As ever, reality is not a friend to Sussex super fans. So they lie and attack. And then wonder why no one takes their arguments seriously.

pikkumyy77 · 25/05/2025 23:59

Im not a sussex superfan? And I do think people who answer online popularity polls are mouth breathing goobers—because they are. I can assure you this belief is neither democratic nor republican.

I think the Royal PR machine is working overtime to convince the population about how important they still are whilst allowing them to do as little as possible.

Their prime concern is keeping the public on side whilst increasing their wealth by any means possible including charging the public to store ambulances on ‘their’ land.

And quote:

"At the heart of belittling behavior often lies a complex web of psychological factors. One of the primary drivers is low self-esteem and insecurity. Paradoxically, those who put others down frequently struggle with their own sense of self-worth. By diminishing others, they create an illusion of superiority, temporarily boosting their fragile ego."

I have no real opinion on the royal family but, reading the first post, being able to schedule your engagements around your children itself seems a huge privilege.

For me the privilege isn't really worth it though. I like to be a private citizen.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 26/05/2025 11:09

It makes me think of M&S starting to sell food when you were habituated to it being a clothes shop. Will it work out for the Royals as it did M&S? I don't know. The USP of the Royals has always been heritage, tradition, velvet slippers, crowns, culture and continuity, but so far none of the younger generation seem to be interested in all that. Global philanthropy is already being done by other celebs. It will be interesting to find out what William does about his relationship with the C of E too when the time comes.
