William the Quiet Disruptor - Future of the Monarchy

I just read this Sky News article “My Week with Prince William: The Quiet Disruptor” and found it really interesting.

The article paints a picture of someone who’s trying to do things differently, more of a “quiet disruptor” than a traditional royal. He seems to want to modernise the monarchy, focusing less on ribbon-cutting and more on community projects and real social impact. It might not be flashy, but it feels more in touch with what people care about today. He wants to be seen as a trustworthy global leader who uses his influence for good in a time when there is a lot of distrust in leadership worldwide.

It talks about how, although some still label him “work-shy” because he schedules his engagements around his children, most of the people interviewed actually saw that as a positive. They praised him for putting his family first and being a present dad.

It acknowledges that not everyone will be happy with this new version of monarchy, and some people will criticise the change in ethos.

I suppose time will tell whether this new approach will change anything long term. Charles also said he wanted to modernise, so let’s see it sticks this time. But it’s an interesting read if you’re curious about how William’s trying to shape his role.

My week with Prince William, the quiet disruptor

Rhiannon Mills, Sky News royal correspondent, spent the week shadowing Prince William, seeing first hand the potential blueprint for the future king.

Dear Lord, the jealousy on here because a certain person/family are wealthy. Firstly, they are by no means the wealthiest in the country, so are we saying that everyone on the Sunday Times Rich List should give all their money "to the nation"? For politicians to waste? I don't think so.
And the "politics of envy" is unattractive. I'm happy that the Royals perform their public duties efficiently. What they do in their private time and with their own money is completely irrelevant. I don't have money, but it really doesn't bother me that other people do!

It shows Prince William does a lot more than what is published in the court circular, but nothing's going to change your view that he's lazy, even increasing evidence that a lot more goes on than you want to believe.

It shows W seems to be far more enthusiastic about working on his personal empire than he is about royal duty.

But we knew this already from the reports he spends an inordinate amount of time Whatsapping about it.

Goalie55 · 31/05/2025 11:22

just out of interest how much work is enough work. If he did the equivalent of a FT job would that be enough?
Or does it only count if it’s public facing time?

BustingBaoBun · 31/05/2025 11:25

Why on earth is it jealousy or envy? No no no.

Last I heard those on the Sunday Times Rich list weren't receiving hundreds of millions from the Sovereign Grant!

Well that is your twist on an article that is out today. Do you know how many WhatsApp he sends? Are you a recipient or are you guesstimating?

Because it's not their own money, none of it going back in history has never been their own money

How do you define what is someone’s “own” money though? If you received a large inheritance from someone who is not a family member, for example, should you give it away
because it is not your “own” money? Should you not make moneyby renting out property because that is not your “own” money? Lots of people have money that they have not directly worked for 🤷‍♀️

autocorrect insisting that I mean a French impressionist painter and not moolah 🙄

Well, I certainly think he should work the equivalent of a full time job, yes. And I think 3 holidays in the first 3/4 months of the year is not a good look. What do you think?

Again you are using ambiguous words not facts. Give me the facts about this and I will consider your question.

How can you even deem what is " the equivalent " ? Eg a teacher has a full time job but the hours are not dictated by school opening hours. A shop assistant has a full time job and it is much easier to assess their hours.

Its not jealousy though—its a pretty reasonable social and political position. I certainly think extreme wealth should be taxed out of existence. Goes for Elon Musk as well as the Royal Family and all the Russian Oligarchs. Its not jealousy—its not because I want what they have (I have quite enough for my needs) or because I begrudge them the pleasure of it. I think more families should have access to great education, health care, swimming pools, food, recreation, etc… I am not anti happiness or joy, not some curmudgeon, just more of a utilitarian.

Its because I think great inequality of wealth distorts the political economy and allows corruption while diminishing the public’s access to health, education, and the good life. politicians should represent the people and fight for the commin good. Studies of democracies, however, show that while elections and public statements can appear populist the actual legislation that gets passed generally tracks the specific interests of the very wealthy. They can afford to buy their politicians wholesale and retail while the lower and middle classes can not.

We have last year's reports of multiple WA messages and W responding immediately as queries arise:

https://archive.ph/7bdjK

We now have further recent reports from staff he is 'demanding' and 'impatient' when it comes to managing the duchy which again suggest it consuming much of his attention:

That still doesn't answer my question.

It maybe suggests he is using a more modern method and a more instant method.

Sorry? I don’t see the ambiguity. I said “equivalent” because I know he can’t work 9 to 5. How about 1880 hours over the year? That’s the equivalent of 47 40 hour weeks.

Of course I don't have exact figures which is why I originally said 'seems' but when multiple reports from different sources say the same thing and we now have a puff piece about regular visits to a revenue driven estate it's not unreasonable to draw conclusions about how much time is spent on the matter.

If you have facts, figures or reports showing otherwise, please feel free to share.

Oh yes they bastard are. That Rich List doesn't give the half of what the Windsor family are up to and what's classed as theirs that isn't included in the tallying up.

Politics of envy, my arse. Some of us are way past the cap doffing bollocks. If you don't have money, as per your post, and you don't care that this bloated, entitled family have more than you'll ever dream of, you're part of the problem along with them.

Obviously I don’t know- maybe he works more than 1880 hours a year? We actually know practically nothing about any of them! What do you think would be an appropriate number of hours for him to work?
