This does seem particularly interesting timing bearing in mind Trump's statements about annexing Canada. So will Trump's regard for the King win out over his desire for a 51st state?

I love that Charles met with all three indigenous leaders on the first day.

C and C received a lovely warm welcome in Canada and I thought they both looked well .

As far as I could see Camilla ( my junior and my queen😃) was wearing a maple leaf brooch. Was it QE2's originally and did Kate wear it when she and William went to Canada?

From the BBC report (which reads like a series of press releases cobbled together):

[The Queen] wore a diamond maple leaf brooch that was given by King George VI to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, in 1939 ahead of their first royal tour to Canada.

That same brooch was passed down to Queen Elizabeth II, and has been loaned to other royals including Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Thank you. Will Camilla wear red and white today - that is the next question!

The late Queen once wore a dress with a maple leaf design embroidered on one shoulder and sleeve. Described by Angela Kelly in her book. Maybe something similar for Camilla.

Trump doesn't actually want/think Canada will become 51st state. He was just doing it to get under Trudeau's skin. He even admitted it at his 1st meeting with Carney. It did make me smile whenever he called him Governor Trudeau.

Are you Canadian, as your name suggests? Because I can get behind making Justin uncomfortable.

Otherwise, the orange dickhead’s comments pissed me off. And yes, I realize half of what he says is to piss people off, the other half just comes out of his mouth without thought.

GildedRage · 27/05/2025 15:46

i think the 51st state and governor comments made many people uncomfortable partially because we knew how reliant we are on the usa. we suddenly became much more aware of certain uncomfortable truths regarding some very lax behavior on canada's part (policing the border and other points of entry, military purchases etc etc etc) all the while not really having anything to show for the past many years (suggesting money not spent on policing and military had been spent of something else worthwhile).
thankfully we have multiple other strengths as a nation; generally a healthy well educated lot with a sound financial history and many with a knowledge of industrial work both historic and modern.
i have high hopes that as a country we can grow from the usa's verbal assault and threats to our sovereignty.

I must say, that was impressive. There seems to be good crowds wherever they are and they are generally being well-received.

Camilla was wearing dark blue. Red would probably have been too much, with the red and white maple leaf flags, red Mounties' uniforms, red military uniforms and red carpets.

I caught a glimpse on the News. I like navy blue better than royal blue.

There do seem to be good sized crowds.

They have left now but it seems to have been a positive visit.

My Canadian family say it's like he's suddenly popped up in their front lounge the coverage has been so relentless! Seems like a successful visit.
