William on the global stage

The government have asked Prince William to attend the ceremony to mark the restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. He is mixing with world leaders such as Trump, Macron, Zelensky and Meloni, as well as Elon Musk and First Lady Dr Jill Biden. He will also be having a private meeting with Trump to discuss Anglo-American relations.

Is this a sign of things to come for William? Is this preparing him for his future role as King?

Just been reading a post on reddit with someone who works with William and she says he never reads his briefing documents.

You really need to share with us where you get all your information !?

But the reporting is that Trump behaved in a paternal manner towards William. Really strange reporting. As if William was out of his depth and Trump was trying to be fatherly and supportive.

What’s that got to do with Trump shooting his mouth off? He could still have told William stuff he intended to do when President in a “fatherly way”🤷‍♀️. Apparently they met in private and discussed a wide range of global issues for 40minutes

@EdithWeston I believe as PoW Charles started to get his own red boxes to prepare him for being King. I expect William to have the same.

I'd thought that was only in the later years of ER II, when she had begun to reduce engagements and Charles was deputising more extensively.

I've no idea if those sorts of arrangements have been put in place already, such that PoW gets his own boxes now, as opposed to briefings when needed.

I’m sure no political leader is going to be telling a member of the RF anything relevant to the politics of their country. They would save those conversations for the Secretary of State who can actually participate in the discussions.

That's a different working level

Heads of State and Heads of Government are far less likely to be meeting the Secretaries of State (though might each bring them as entourage.

Then there would be meetings between Secretaries of State; between ministers; and between officials at various working levels, plus of course exchanges between parliamentary groups and quangos (all matched by seniority/function)

And it would be a major breach of the constitution in UK if the PM didn't comply with the requirement to consult the Monarch and for the Monarch to have the opportunity to advise.

Given William is in his 40s, KC has cancer and a different approach to QEII I would not be surprised if William had a red box too.

All the red box is, is a fancy way to send papers and briefings to Ministers and the King. They are quite cumbersome as I’ve known Ministers to have several in a big bag their PA lugs about.

CandyMaker · 09/12/2024 16:23

But Charles is doing more engagements than William, so why would William have red boxes?
When Charles had red boxes, Elizabeth was pretty ill and doing very little.

Ah Reddit that bastion of truth.

I work with the King and I know for a Fact that he plants stories about William there regularly.

My best friend Camilla says that’s not true . She plants the stories.

My bridesmaid Catherine (she looked so cute with the flowers in her hair) told me Camilla makes up stories to seem important.

I was talking to Kate at the Windsor Farm shop last week - she gave me some good tips for getting out of Christmas lunch with the in-laws.

The best way for William to endure 40 minutes of Trump is to turn off his brain and never stop smiling. This is my opinion after 4 years of the prior Trump presidency. Also never follow his medical advice.

That’s nearer the truth imho!

Edited to say: sorry but looking at those videos of Trump with William, he completely ran him over. William doesn't have the necessary political knowledge, nouse, or gravitas in these situations.

Didn't Trump have a thing for Diana? Hopefully it's given him a soft spot for the British people.
