Didn't see an existing thread, so apologies if this is a duplicate

Catherine appeared with William today in Southport to speak to the families and first responders affected by the horrific knife attack.

Good to see her back at work.

I don't get the impression William really cares about clothes.

In this case I bet he was thinking along the lines of, don't want to look too formal for the private meeting with parents but don't want to be cold when I sit outside, shirt, jacket and jumper it is. Catherine, what colour are you wearing?

Carnationstreet7 · 10/10/2024 19:26

He looks like a geography teacher tho

For me it just reminds of an old headmaster look. Getting on bus this morning and the kids going to school had burgundy blazer then a jumper, tie and shirt on...so yes i immediately went to reminds me of a school look and imo not in a good way it ages him making him look far older than he is.

pilates · 11/10/2024 12:37

Good to see them - lovely to have Catherine back. She has been missed!

Vespanest · 11/10/2024 13:04

i tried and deleted a few attempts to comment but all seems so shallow with their reason for being there. Those poor parents

upinaballoon · 11/10/2024 14:37

I cast my eyes over the newspapers' headlines this morning, while shopping. I can't quite remember all three words the Mirror had, but it was something like 'Smiling, somethinging, hugging ' Kate, and I felt that I knew why they had chosen to pop in the 'hugging'. Ah, she does hug, not to order, but when she wants to.
Nice to see her. Nice that they saw the families earlier, separately I believe, and unreported until after.

LaMarschallin · 11/10/2024 15:08

For me it just reminds of an old headmaster look.

So, the look of someone whose job is to educate children? Is that bad?

so yes i immediately went to reminds me of a school look and imo not in a good way it ages him making him look far older than he is.

That's a little bit garbled but I think you mean you feel William's jersey ages him for some reason?
Perhaps he's not too bothered about looking older than he is (although he looks fine to me). Perhaps he just wants to show those people he and Catherine are visiting that they care about them.

Weird my post disappeared. Is it verboten to say I don't like the engagement ring?

😂
I think it simply just disappeared or will appear later....

pilates · 11/10/2024 15:57

I am sure the families and responders were not looking at William’s clothes.

I never said it was bad, im simply agreeing with another poster that I can see why they also thought he looked like a teacher. Not sure why you are trying to take what is a neutral comment into something else.

I very much doubt William comes here to read comments and he can wear what he likes and I can also comment on it. So what is your issue? Are we not allowed to comment on what we think about what a person wore? Are we not allowed to post our opinions on whatever matter we want to? 🤔

Indeed we can post our opinions.
So I can comment on your comment, I suppose.
Was your comment "neutral"?

I never said it was bad, im simply agreeing with another poster that I can see why they also thought he looked like a teacher.

But you actually said: so yes i immediately went to reminds me of a school look and imo not in a good way it ages him making him look far older than he is.
Is "not in a good way" neutral?

The comment about it reminding me of school and a headmaster yes that's a neutral comment that you decided to think I'm saying it's a bad thing.

Im telling you it isn't but you don't have to believe me and I don't care to be honest i don't even see the point of your comment to me in the first place other than the fact it's not some fawning comment over him or Catherine and so that must be addressed...because of course we must all toe the line on the rf board and only write good things about them and bad things about others🙄

In my opinion you're rambling a bit now.
And saying imo not in a good way isn't neutral.

but you don't have to believe me

That's okay then.

You did say “so yes i immediately went to reminds me of a school look and imo not in a good way it ages him making him look far older than he is” which implies he looks like a geography teacher in a ‘bad way’ and that looking older than he is is also a bad thing.

You can have whatever opinion you want and people can challenge that opinion. But I can see why LaMarschallin has interpreted that you were being negative, as that is how I have also read it. Own it as a negative comment (which you are entitled to make) or maybe try to reword what you intended.

Back on topic, yes he’s not dressed to the nines but I like it. He looks approachable, comfortable and inviting. I’ve also noted a lot of the event took place outside so it was probably practical to wear a jumper when it’s this chilly. I love we’re actually critiquing the man’s clothes rather than the woman’s 🤣

Dustyblue · 11/10/2024 18:14

I just read "Catherine Princess of Wales" by Robert Jobson. It was boring as all hell, she's too young for a biography and really, she hasn't done much other than produce 3 children.

However it is nice to see her out & about after what must have been a gruelling year or so of cancer treatment. Good for her.

I wrote two points in my post and my first was about it reminding me he looked like a teacher which is then commented upon saying nynsomeone else trying to make out i was saying it a a bad thing and i therefore responded about that first point that my point was neutral. I didn't say my second point was neutral which would be negative.

So I don't need to own anything

But you said “not in a good way”, implying that it was a bad way. That is not neutral. If you were keeping it neutral you’d say “there’s nothing wrong with looking like a geography teacher” or the like, as some other posters have said.

If you don’t want to own it perhaps take my other piece of advice and reword it so your intention is clearer. If more than one person is perceiving your comment in a way you didn’t intend then the problem is you not being clear on what you are trying to say. It’s up to you to make a clear statement, not for others to read your mind.

JADS · 11/10/2024 18:55

I've been with dh for over 20 years and we do have a tendency to co ordinate outfits without even trying/subliminally. It's a bit weird at times. Maybe Catherine and William do the same?

Stepping away from the superficial, it's nice they are meeting the families and responders now. It shows they aren't forgotten.

Jesus the bickering that is going on about petty little things or words on the RF board. I have to put it down to there not being much to say positively about M and H right now. Harry is lost in space and Meghan is otherworldly. There's no long posts with a million links to some appearance Meghan has made. All that is left is quibbling and derailing.

Coolcats24 · 11/10/2024 22:09

I thought Catherine looked like she's aged considerably
You can see she's had a tough time [ and probably still is)

I’m actually really appreciative of any woman in the public eye who has the grace to age naturally.

I like Catherine very much, but I will happily give praise to any woman, even those I dislike, when they buck the current trend for fillers, tucks, and Botox.

I think the current fad to fanatically chase youth with surgery and injectables isn’t healthy, and that society is obsessed with women ensuring their faces are plump and unlined, regardless of age. It’s great to see famous women normalising ageing - Jamie Lee Curtis is another fab example.

Even before her cancer, I thought there were times that Catherine was looking older. And as you say, the last year must have been really hard on her, physically and emotionally. She looks well, happy, and healthy - she looks like a beautiful woman in her 40s, and there’s nowt wrong with that.

pavementgerms · 12/10/2024 06:38

I think the dramatic aging is likely down to her not having had her usual treatments for a while whilst on chemo. She's also thinner than ever which does tend to be aging.

CurlewKate · 12/10/2024 07:09

I do think it's a shame that William dresses so old! I'm older than him and no men I know my age dress like that. I suppose he's settled into a style he can maintain for the rest of his life.......
