Surely this photograph is multiple pictures too?

I’ve always assumed this photo isn’t the ‘true’ picture but lots of the ‘good’ bits stitched together to make it more perfect. How come this was allowed? It seems a tad unfair that Catherine’s photo was made such a massive deal of when really it was just doing the exact same thing.

Agreed. I think it's logical to conclude though that the press are well aware the RF crossed a line this time because the picture was misleading about something quite fundamental rather than being misleading on trivia (eg wonky teeth/hair out of place).

eise · 14/03/2024 17:48

We'll soon find out. CNN has opened a department concerned with checking all previous photos from the RF.

BoohooWoohoo · 14/03/2024 17:51

You can post edited pictures to your Instagram account. Newspapers are free to lift those for their clicks.

This time KP made a massive mistake and sent the photo to picture agencies like AP. They don’t accept edits unless it’s within their terms of service like removing a speck of dust on the lense. If KP had posted it to Instagram and not said it was taken in 2024 then there wouldn’t be a fuss. Phoyo agencies want accurate photos and by announcing a date, it was inevitably that there would be forensic analysis of the photo because the conspiracy theorists want any info that points to something going on behind the scenes.

pineapplepepperoni · 14/03/2024 18:24

This photo was released to the press though wasn’t it? And I doubt it is representative of the reality of that room with all those kids in it. Unless they are just impeccably behaved and all posed perfectly like that 🤷‍♀️

The photo posted on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ twitter account has been viewed 89 million times. It’s been liked 2 million times on instagram. That’s an incredibly high level of engagement.

They must be pondering whether it’s really worthwhile releasing anything to the photo agencies any more. The press photographers will get plenty of shots of live events, but any pictures of anything private - birthdays, children, the Diplomatic corps function etc don’t have to be. That would be a big financial loss to the agencies.

(And this kerfuffle may well lead other stars - Taylor Swift etc - to do likewise. Why take the risk?).

That's what I would amount to "trivia" though. Everyone knows children rarely stay still. That's a different level of "misleading" from what the press almost undoubtedly know in this instance.

I'd say it's the opposite.

This isn't the fault of the press agencies but the fault of KP for releasing a very obviously doctored photo in the first place. Especially when they know what's going on in terms of the controversy. As it stands, Kate still hasn't been seen.

I imagine even social media pics are going to be analysed and reported on if they use Photoshop in a fundamentally misleading way though. The "kill notice" was a powerful message the press could send but photoshopped social media photos would attract just as much controversy if they amounted to a lie about fundamentals

And they are dependent on goodwill for their insane status and fortune. I don't know many of my generation (millennial) and below who are royalists.

I wonder what generations the 89 million who’ve gone to look at their twitter post come from?

Freysimo · 14/03/2024 18:52

I don't know if that photo with the Queen was "put together" but I remember reading that she had given little Mia Tindall her handbag to hold to keep her still.

Looking at a twitter post doesn't mean you are a royalist.

CassandraWebb · 14/03/2024 18:54

Plus I am pretty sure twitter is largely used by people much older than me tbh. I don't know anyone my generation who is using it with any frequency, particularly since Elon took over and it went weird

TreeBoeng · 14/03/2024 18:55

I'm really suspicious about this one too. The clothing and the fireplace don't look aligned.

Something unrealistic but I can't put my finger on it :-(

Fomp · 14/03/2024 18:55

Is it because there is speculation the photoshopped picture of Kate isn’t a recent photo? So not a Mother’s Day photo as implied?

Mentquack · 14/03/2024 18:56

Long before this fiasco I wasn't convinced about the picture of Queen Elizabeth taken the day before she died with Liz Truss!!

Serenster · 14/03/2024 18:56

You don’t need to be a fan to engage with something online.

This was done by an official photographer I believe and its not supposed to be put together

I read somewhere that the rules around photo editing/splicing etc were changed recently (in the last year) because of concerns about AI/Putin renegade Princesses' The comment I read (apols, can't remember where it was) said that the same photo last year wouldn't have been pulled up

pineapplepepperoni · 14/03/2024 19:01

I know it’s a professional photo but I think it’s SO unlikely it’s not multiple images stitched together. It’s too perfect and doesn’t feel natural.

Freakinfraser · 14/03/2024 19:05

I don’t think that is multiple images, or a composite to use the right term. I understand it was a professional photographer took it. I think it is one phote,op, a moment in time.

im not sure why you find it unlikely. They are all just posing for the photo, and anyone with kids knows you can get them to stand for a moment, and say cheese.

there was no need for this to be a composite. It was professionally taken. There clearly was a need for Catherine’s. And that was not simply they couldn’t get the kids to stay still, the heaviest editing was Catherine’s face.

If I didn’t know better I’d say that’s not a real bear you know.
