Royal History - a resource thread

Hi
On the RF threads (amongst the argy-bargy) there are often little nuggets of fascinating insight/historical knowledge shared by posters. I often mean to make a note of a book reference or a podcast but inevitably don't!

If others feel the same, I thought a nice, positive resource thread may be of use to build our own knowledge.

So please do share any books/podcasts/tv programmes that could enrich my historical understanding of any Royal Family, throughout the ages! -Feel free to tell me the best podcast on the House of Bolkiah, or more about Countess Augusta Reuss of Ebersdorf (or don't if she was a bit dull!)....

Obviously, more modern resources exist too and happy to have these signposted but could we avoid getting into a slanging match about the robustness (or otherwise) of their sources...

what have you read/listened to/watched and why are you recommending it to the diverse bunch that sail on this tipsy turvey ship of a thread!

The Rest is History podcast had a couple of interesting (and at times hilarious!) episodes about coronations at the time of KC3's coronation - the general history of coronations, and memorable British ones

Great thread! I would recommend King Edward VIII by Phillip Ziegler. I've long been interested in the abdication and the lives of Edward and Wallis.
I would also recommend Elizabeth of York by Alison Weir, and The Sisters Who would be Queen, by Leanda de Lisle, which is about the Grey sisters. Also by Alison Weir - Mary, Queen of Scots.

Ooh, good thread!

For bitesize nuggets of royal history, I can recommend History Calling on YouTube, presented by an ex university lecturer.

I know he's not very PC, but David Starkey Talks on Youtube is also very good. He knows his stuff about royal history,

Starkey's book on the wives of Henry VIII is one of the best.

There's a YouTube channel called Scandinavian Royalty with a 6-part documentary series. Here's the blurb:

"At the end of the 1800s, the Danish King, Christian IX and his wife, Queen Louise, married their six children into the dominating European royal families and Christian IX became known as "Europe's Father-In-Law". Today, his descendants are to be found all over Europe. These are their stories, stories of power, love, triumph, tragedy and honor, recounted through interviews and never before published letters, photographs and home movie footage, by over 30 members of the European royal family. Anecdotes handed down through generations give insight into a Europe ruled by 'dynasty politics' where arranged marriages created alliances between countries."

And the link:

I'm enjoying this:

It has sons fighting fathers, brothers fighting brothers, wife scheming against husbands with their ex-husband... and sons resentment at the Men in Grey of the time! Nothing new under the sun and all that...
