Just watching this (on delay).

couple of minutes in and the King and Queen are having their first portraits taken - I’m shocked by the Camilla’s speech - has she had a stroke? She couldn't seem to speak clearly or move her mouth at all??

She sounds much clearer later on to be fair

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Wow the level of detail that went into the occasion - amazing.

pilates · 26/12/2023 22:22

I enjoyed watching it. Charles came across lovely.

rockstarshoes · 26/12/2023 22:28

I really enjoyed it too!

Wheelerdeeler · 26/12/2023 22:38

Is it repeated?

idontlikealdi · 26/12/2023 22:40

She just looked terrified. I'm no royalist but enjoyed watching it.

It is available on iplayer.

Gardeningtime · 26/12/2023 22:41

I think it was just as the sound captured her op, prob should ask for this to be deleted. It’s not very pleasant,

megletthesecond · 26/12/2023 22:43

Watching on iplayer now. The jewels on the crowns look like sweeties.

sashagabadon · 26/12/2023 22:45

Was very nice documentary. All the work that went into it. It didn’t even touch on the military or police work or the concert. I guess it would be a 6 hour programme. But I enjoyed all the crown info

Rinoachicken · 26/12/2023 23:23

I was concerned for her, that was all, not sure why being concerned for someone’s health is unpleasant. I agree that it must have been the sound at that point. I really enjoyed the programme and it was lovely to see ‘behind the scenes’ and a more personal side.

I would have been very nervous to be the person who had to saw through the crown!

@sashagabadon if you can find the Channel 5 programme 'The King's Guard: Serving the Crown, it goes behind the scenes of the military rehearsals for the Coronation.

It was a fascinating programme to watch especially the full rehearsal in London at night.

I too was surprised at her voice, she needed a subtitle in parts, but I guess that’s how the verr verr posh sound, as if they’re drunk or have a mouth full of marbles.

Saw through the crown?

AllIsCalmButImNotBright · 27/12/2023 02:11

@hoobanoobie Saw through the crown?

Yes, I forgot to record the programme but it showed that bit in the trailer.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 27/12/2023 02:12

It was very interesting to see the behind the scenes, and hear more about some of the less publicised events.

I had to catch up one or two parts on I Player and I did watch the photograph preparation again, using subtitles. Looking again and reading, Camilla didn't say many words so there were three speaking almost at the same time. Also, I thought she'd got her lippie on ready for the photos and didn't want to eat it off or smudge it and it looked a bit as if she was speaking with her lips apart and through her teeth.

PaminaMozart · 27/12/2023 02:48

She looked absolutely terrified at times. Throughout she came across as someone who only did this for Charles but was determined to do everything she could to do it right.

I thought the comments by her sister and her friend - the 'bridesmaids' - were very revealing. They clearly love Camilla and seemed very protective of her.

mantyzer · 27/12/2023 02:57

She did sound like she had had a stroke. Was Bells Palsy not suggested by the palace?
But Camilla is 76. A small stroke would not be that unusual at that age, especially in someone who smokes.

pilates · 27/12/2023 06:42

I loved the bit where Charles greeted W & K and the grandchildren. Very natural and loving.

Saw through the crown?

It has to be re sized. It had been made smaller for George vi. QEii must have had the same sized head as her father (small apparently), but the King’s head is a more average size so a piece of gold had to be inserted. It was sawn apart to do this

I didn’t see this documentary, but thought Charles was difficult to understand for his Christmas Day speech — definitely not a stroke in his case, he’s always done the UC Mumble.
