Big help out

Not royalists at all, but my 6 year old enjoyed the build up at school. We didn't watch it, but I took him to a Big Help Out so he had something to remember, in his scruffy clothes and hated wellies, and he was superb and enjoyed litter picking for 2 hours.

Then see pictures of Princess Charlotte in her perfect white trainers and Louis getting to drive a digger - for which they both get a fancy medal. WTF, they did nothing, an insult to all those in communities who properly rolled up their sleeves.

Why couldn't they have litter picked the Mall instead? (And so should all the other royalists).

I’m glad your DS was able to take part and enjoyed his litter picking. You sound rightfully proud of him.

Bloodsweatntears · 08/05/2023 20:51

Glad your DS got stuck in. But the reward is a clean environment- not a medal!

The royal kids were out there doing community work surrounded by press. I’m sure they would have preferred the old clothes and privacy your DS enjoyed; give them a break.

polkadotdalmation · 08/05/2023 20:52

Don't be ridiculous. They painted, they dug sand and george tried to manage a drill. Of course the press featured the mini digger, but they were all mucking in with the rest of the scout group.

Have you nothing better to do than criticise 3 young children?

polkadotdalmation · 08/05/2023 20:54

They're little kids. What exactly do you expect small kids to do?... start building walls and renovating gardens. Jeez, some people will nit pick for England.

toomuchlaundry · 08/05/2023 20:55

Surely you should be concentrating on what your child did?

Ahiccuportwo · 08/05/2023 20:57

What a mean spirited thread.

Your DS would have been in fresh clean clothes if you knew he would be splashed all over the newspapers tomorrow. The royals can’t do right for doing wrong. 🙄

SleepingStandingUp · 08/05/2023 21:04

He was litter picking, not mucking out the pigs, there's no particular reasons why he had to be I scruffy clothes and shoes he hates. But yes, let's blame Charlotte for wearing clean shoes 🙄

They were helping renovate a scouts hut, something Kate is involved in, and they seemingly did the same jobs the other kids there did

Probably a much safer option security wise than handing them a grabber and sending them down the Mall, so therefore cheaper too.

And it looks like they got a scouts badge, not a medal.

You sound ridiculous. I hope you feel better about yourself having a pop at little kids🙄

WeWereInParis · 08/05/2023 21:21

I don't really know what relevance her white trainers have. I've only seen one picture from today and it was Charlotte painting a wooden fence/gate panel thing, along with some other children of a similar age.

The only thing the white trainers show is that they can afford to buy new ones if the white ones get wood varnish on them.

I'd generally prefer to abolish the RF, but I think we can leave 8 year olds out of it. It has no relevance to what your son did today.

Georgiepud · 08/05/2023 21:36

Why is everything such a bloody competition - whose kids are doing what?

polkadotdalmation · 08/05/2023 21:46

Yet another nit picking thread.

MillieOns · 08/05/2023 22:03

Another thread whinging about the RF. This time the kids are getting a bashing.

OP your DS enjoyed litter picking for the big help out. Just leave it at that. There’s no need to be jealous of other peoples kids (whoever they may be).

Sunnycornwallanddevon · 08/05/2023 22:06

Don't be so utterly miserable and critical fgs

Whaeanui · 08/05/2023 22:12

It is completely inappropriate to write a thread criticising any of the children. They’re children!. for goodness sake, leave them alone.

This!

AskMeMore · 08/05/2023 23:52

The children were featured as pr for the royal family. Of course it is fine to be critical of that pr.

The children were helping regenerate a scout hut or something, along with a lot of other children. Were the other kids pictured with them part of their parent's PR stunt?

Your observation falls into the category, 'you can't prove a negative'.

Roussette · 09/05/2023 16:46

I think it was a great optic. I wish the RF would do more of this. Not just photo ops but getting down and dirty doing stuff.

Like Jimmy Carter, what a wonderful man he is with his 'homes for humanity'. In his 90s but always doing. He has been to 14 countries and built thousands of homes (not him literally, but he is very hands on in his dungarees and drilling etc) He's been doing this since 1984.

I would love to see a hands on Royal project, it would do them a lot of good.

Aposterhasnoname · 09/05/2023 17:32

Imagine being so mean spirited you have a go at kids. There must be something very wrong in your life that makes you think that’s ok.

LlynTegid · 09/05/2023 19:56

You could ask why Rishi Sunak was preparing parsnips having travelled a distance, instead of somewhere such as the local food bank in Westminster. More valid than having a go at the Royal Family.

WheelsUp · 09/05/2023 20:03

Well done to your son. It's not his fault that he needed wellies (was it raining?) and you chose his scruffy clothes rather than regular clothes (ie not Sunday best)

Looks like the Wales children had a good time and helped a good cause. It is dickish to criticise their outfits when adults make that choice for kids.

1offnamechange · 09/05/2023 20:17

ffs

they are kids, they don't get to choose where they go or what they do or even what they wear! Apparently those 'perfect' trainers were £20 from Next, hardly the epitome of exclusivity. Completely normal attire for volunteering. If she'd been in anything cheaper you'd be slating her for supporting slave labour by buying from primark!

Your son won't give a fuck about what random other children are doing or what they wore while they did it, why do you?

Who said they get a "fancy medal"? If they did get anything (and I assume it would be a token), so would any of the other kids at the same event, and it would be for participating, which they did.

I'm not a royalist but can't imagine being so petty as to begrudge an 8 year old some cheap trainers ffs!
