If Princess Charlotte had been born before Prince George...

If Charlotte had been born before George and was heir to the throne, would she have had a active 'page' or attendant role in the coronation or would that have gone to George? Anyone know?

I'm a fan of the RF and interested in all things ceremonial, first post on this board.

I realised a 'page' is traditionally male but could Charlotte have taken on this role if she had been heir to the throne?

I noticed (slightly disappointed) that the Queen Consort has a number of pages too, all male minor relatives and I wondered again why there are no female children, eg grandchildren featuring, if not as 'pages' but attendants.

Boys are pages. End of.
Sex matters.

Lol

I think you're underestimating Charlotte. She's probably in charge of the whole show and is running rehearsals as we speak. 😂

I'm not a huge royal fan but she does seem to be a mini Elizabeth II. I know she has been caught on camera telling her brothers things like, "remember to bow".

OP

I have a feeling it might be to do with Charles being male, HMQ had only female attendants didn't she?

No idea. What did William of Catherine say when you asked them?

There is currently no heir presumptive. The late queen was the last heir presumptive due to male primogeniture. Had her parents had another child after her that was male that child would have become heir apparent. Both Charles and William became heir apparent as they were both already born and male when their parent became monarch. George will become heir apparent when William takes the throne, and unless the letters of patent get changed again the title of heir presumptive will now die out as its firstborn child of any gender.

Heir presumptive won’t die out completely as a sibling could still be demoted by a child.

If George, for example, took the throne while childless Charlotte would be heir presumptive as she would be the current heir, but able to be displaced by a child of George.

Queen Elizabeth, wife of King George VI, had six female (adult) attendants at the coronation of the King. It seems Camilla might therefore have had that option but has decided, or maybe new rules dictate, that her attendants must be male. I note from a PP that her granddaughters will be involved in the anointing under a canopy but that she will have pages.

It must seem as if I'm obsessed with this - I'm not! More curious to know why.

I think it’s likely we’ll just see the 8 boys involved in the canopies.

I think if different people were going to be involved it would have been announced.

I’d also wonder if perhaps Camilla’s children are a bit more wary about putting their teenage daughters into the media glare than the boys. There will be undeniably more scrutiny on them, their looks, their outfits, and the likes than their will be on their brother or cousin.

A very good point.

Were queens burned? Anyway, people risked their lives all the time back in medieval times in the pursuit of power.

Anne Boleyn certainly risked that but the penalty was changed to beheading out of the goodness of Henry VIII's heart 🙄

Aww, he was such a hero for women's causes.

Wasn't he just 😂

Actually, I think four of the six were remarkable in their own way for a lot more agency than was usual in those days - but that was despite Henry, not because of him!
