Kate launches new campaign about importance of early childhood?

I have been reading about how Kate is launching a new awareness raising campaign about the importance of early childhood.
I had thought she launched this years ago and since then we have had the survey with the 5 big questions, her visits to nurseries, and her meetings with Early Years experts. I can't see how this is any different from what was announced in the past?

@AllOutofEverything i do think it's a waste of time at the moment. Kate needs to start campaigning for funding and/or helping people to achieve all this lovely child interaction.

Loads of parents already understand the importance of the early years but lack the means to be as present or well-learned as they would like to be.

Loads of other parents have no clue at all. But a wafty billbaord video and weird website isn't going to reach the- that's why I keep banging on about surestart and funding.

Coxspurplepippin · 31/01/2023 22:41

'There are early years experts on this thread who think the campaign is a waste of time.'

That's great - no-one should bother with anything ever.

'We've already got NCT, toddler groups, nurseries, childminders, health visitors, midwives, libraries for books and bookbug etc, cbeebies, social workers, doctors, primary teachers, police etc - all those things either on offer or people doing their best to look out for kids who need the help.'
And even the experts on this thread are saying more needs to be done. There's still a need. So perhaps a bit of high profile light shining on the issues might make a difference.

But, let's just write it off. Let's just disparage and criticise. Let's just dismiss and belittle. That's how to get stuff done.

AllOutofEverything · 31/01/2023 22:42

@Coxspurplepippin What is the aim of the campaign?

She's all over the media. I've never seen anyone highlight early years development ever like this. I think this is just the start. She's not going away any time soon.

You can start her

@Coxspurplepippin Can't you just tell me? An outcome should be a single sentence.

Thank you Kate for providing this illuminating insight based on your long standing study and experience in early years education. I'm honoured to have you point out the obvious to me.

How are your children getting on with the nanny and private school?

derxa · 31/01/2023 22:50

AllOutofEverything · 31/01/2023 22:45

@derxa What is the aim of the campaign?

People generally think that education begins when you send your child to school but your child starts learning the minute they first draw breath. That's the message.

AllOutofEverything · 31/01/2023 22:51

Okay this is closest to an aim from the website you linked to. There is no proper outcome identified.

We will raise awareness and inspire action through creative campaigns and activity.

Which would have my boss sending me back to the drawing board.

Increase in awareness

AllOutofEverything · 31/01/2023 22:52

@derxa EVERYONE knows that. Children learn to walk, talk, play, etc. Even people with no understanding of child development know that.

They have measured awareness and will continue to measure to track progress. As this is a long term initiative I imagine they will be measuring at various intervals.

Increase in awareness

Increase in awareness that early years matter? To what end?

Seriously such an incredibly vague campaign would never get past even the first stage in any company.

But the point is that 'everyone' doesn't.

Seems you're wrong. I certainly wasn't aware about the importance of up to 5 until I had children and started reading about child development.

AllOutofEverything · 31/01/2023 22:54

So 99% of people now know through the campaign that early years matter. So what? What difference does that make?

OP posts:
AllOutofEverything · 31/01/2023 22:55

@wincarwoo You did not know that children learned things like how to walk and talk and play before they went to school?

You're coming across a little obtuse and critical for the sake of it.

@wincarwoo You said it is about teaching that children learn before they go to school. I am suggesting that everyone already knows that.
