Kate launches new campaign about importance of early childhood?

I have been reading about how Kate is launching a new awareness raising campaign about the importance of early childhood.
I had thought she launched this years ago and since then we have had the survey with the 5 big questions, her visits to nurseries, and her meetings with Early Years experts. I can't see how this is any different from what was announced in the past?

I think it's just something to keep her looking busy.

AllOutofEverything · 31/01/2023 12:31

It does not succeed.

Bluekerfuffle · 31/01/2023 12:41

So she’s keeping it going and improving on it, what’s wrong with that?

toomuchlaundry · 31/01/2023 12:44

Because unfortunately many people don't understand the importance of how a child's early years can impact their life chances, so it needs to be emphasised continually

toomuchlaundry · 31/01/2023 12:45

Are you criticising the other people who are also helping backing the campaign?

I think she has been leading up to this with the survey etc. much like the Princess Royal spent 19 years learning about Save the Children 🤷‍♀️

smilesy · 31/01/2023 12:46

Sorry 10 years*

It's been noted that there is currently a definite coordinated campaign on SM to criticise everything that she is doing at the moment.

Similar points being made across different platforms.

Coxspurplepippin · 31/01/2023 12:48

Don't you think early childhood is important?

bdayspesh · 31/01/2023 12:48

It's great isn't it that she is so committed to this really important cause.

myrtleWilson · 31/01/2023 12:49

I think she's been immersing herself in the academics/learning - I certainly read somewhere she was very keen if it had been possible to attend the Harvard Centre to improve her insight.
according to the website her centre convened a ministerial and senior civil servant meeting last summer which has now led to creation of permanent x- department working group looking at coordination of thinking around early years - I think this is good step forward as too often govt depts don't have this horizontal focus

lollipoprainbow · 31/01/2023 12:49

Find it completely patronising.

AllOutofEverything · 31/01/2023 12:50

@MrsFinkelstein Or more likely different people spot the same issues.

The issue is that she already launched this years ago. Not much has happened since then. So is this a relaunch? Why the pretence this is something new?

@myrtleWilson Can you provide a link? Or are you talking about the twice annual meetings that are going to happen now? There were lots of photos of the last one.

There is no pretence of this, I believe. It has always been said that she was leading up to this but wanted to study the subject in depth first.

Probably not intended for you then. Have a little think through a wider perspective lens.

Patronising how? That a group of knowledgeable experts in the field now appear to be working with govt and civil service on an important aspect of childhood development?

toomuchlaundry · 31/01/2023 12:55

@lollipoprainbow why do you find it patronising. Would you rather the important of early years was ignored? Would you rather some unknown person publicised this so it goes completely under the radar, or has Royal patronage and also that Kate wants to be knowledgeable on this matter rather than just being the face of the campaign

toomuchlaundry · 31/01/2023 12:56

People complain she doesn't do anything, and complain when she does something. The more people who care about early years the better as far as I am concerned

crapcrapcrapcrapcrap · 31/01/2023 12:56

There are experts involved in the research. If they come up with new, useful insights and policy it would be worthwhile indeed. But other people will be doing the research. She's just a figurehead, to publicise it and take credit.

myrtleWilson · 31/01/2023 12:58

I hadn't realised that the Education Select Committee had launched an inquiry into childcare and specifically mentioned the work of Kate as part of its launch - anything that drives attention is great imo

You think Early Years is a one and done situation?

Constant reappraisal is required and recommended.

Overgrowngrasslady · 31/01/2023 12:58

This is the second weird thread I’ve seen on here about the royals, there’s another one going about Meghan.

op. It’s not new, she’s launched a film as part of her campaign which has been going on a long time, to help people understand the importance of the early years.

it was never a once and done thing and a constant on going thing.

your post is akin to writing I watched eastenders last night why is it on again tonight.

But I’d we did t have a figurehead, it would probably go under the radar as pp have said. Surely on a parenting website, any initiative to draw attention to children’s early years should be appreciated?

MonsterChopz · 31/01/2023 12:59

I think anyone who can give focus to this subject should be applauded, especially if, as PP suggests, she has actually been researching and learning about the subject matter then I can't see what there is to complain about.
