as well as having exclusive access to TK Maxx annual sales...

And booking First Class flights from Mexico on airlines that don't offer first class and don't fly from Mexico ...

And receiving telephone calls at Eton announcing family deaths, when he was in fact skiing in Switzerland.

Doing all his year shopping 15 minutes in a non-existent sale is very impressive

If you look on the twitter feed of tkmaxx though they did hold flash sales once upon a time, disingenuous of them not to mention this. (He may still be talking bollocks though!)

Ah but his sessions with his psychic might helped explain this.

H KNEW the Xbox would be realised 4 years later and play a game with the psychic first to test it out - simples

Flash sales once upon a time are not the same as "annual sales" - semantics aside, I don't believe he managed to get to TK Maxx, sweep down the aisles picking clothes to fill two big bags AND paying in 15 minutes?

Unless he literally did a supermarket sweep style of walk down, grab anything and pay, then try it on later etc

Seems an inefficient way to get a bargain?

I think this is one of the least significant discrepancies in the book. He could have been given a different type of games console and got mixed up.

spanieleyes · 13/01/2023 13:02

He seems to have got mixed up about quite a few things!

Craghopper1 · 13/01/2023 13:04

Tk maxx do 'clearance'. That's the same as a sale. The real question is why are you so over invested in this?

00100001 · 13/01/2023 13:05

The problem is with Varying Recollections, when things are verifiably wrong (eg XBOX) and he's misremembered the time or the actual gift etc

He most likely did receive an XBOX at some point.
He most likely did receive a console in 1997 - but maybe it was a GameCube or whatever

But he definitely did not get an XBOX in 1997.

Either way, a memory is wrong, either dates/times or details. It casts everything he says into doubt... especially as it's multiple mis-remembered occasions

He says himself he doesn’t remember it but was told this is what happened…

Grief, anxiety, depression and cannabis use probably do strange things to the memory of a teenage boy.

so why are ANY of his memories a reliable source of what happened?

Let it go,
Let it gooooo
You aren’t a detective you know
And Harry doesn’t care about your thoughts on timeline errors or discrepancies
And neither do we
So let it goooooooooh-oh-oh!

TK Maxx has replied to this and said they don’t do sales!

00100001 · 13/01/2023 13:16

We're supposed to believe he is a reliable witness to events in the RF.

Yet, if this was a murder trial for example, and the prosecutor had a key witness who got the dates, times and descriptions of the murderer wrong ... they wouldn't be considered credible would they? And if they then went on to say "ah! it was Bob that did it" why would that be believed?

My memory of two years ago would be far more accurate than my memory of twenty years ago, the year after my father died.

Harry could, of course, be lying about everything. I think it’s more a case of there being three sides to every story though. I don’t think we can assume any of them come out of this smelling like roses.

IHateFlies · 13/01/2023 13:43

Probably in his experience, everyone lies. Must be the norm in his circles.
Politicians, prime ministers, royalty, the media, powerful businessmen, tv/film and music moguls all lie subtly and blatantly.
He probably didn't even think twice about accuracy or actual truth being important.

Needmorelego · 13/01/2023 13:48

I bought something in tkmaxx a couple of weeks ago. Original price was less than RRP cos that's what tkmaxx do...but it was reduced down in price further as it was a christmas themed item and they wanted it gone.
Is that not a 'sale' ?

HolidayHideaway · 13/01/2023 13:51

An earlier bio says it was a playstation, very understandable mistake especially as years ago.

DerangedViper · 13/01/2023 13:58

I can't take his word as reliable on areas where no checking is possible when there are glaring inaccuracies in those where it is. Lots of minor ones, and the real humdinger about the death of HMQM

Not according to the company

They do sometimes discounting further, on individual items or categories of item, but don't have an annual sale.

If this was the sole inaccuracy, it wouldn't be important. But it's far from that

2bazookas · 13/01/2023 14:22

Watch him on the USA Colbert interview swearing every word in his book is absolutely true, they are his words, and he wants the world to hear the real truth from his own mouth.
But some of the book is lies from his own mouth. Which undermines the veracity of everything else.
Especially the ugly smears about other people who can't answer back (schoolmatron, his lover, family members)

Yes perhaps. But is it an accurate memory of what was said and in what context. For example, the argument between him and William - is he a reliable witness to what actually was said and done? Obviously he'll have his own perspective on it, and will naturally paint himself in the best light and his brother in the worst.

Things like booking flights from Mexico for weddings etc aren't all that long ago - but the airline says they don;t have flights from that country etc - so something is not right. So Why are we to believe what he says about Charles saying X or William doing Y etc
