I feel sorry for Charles at the moment

Having had my Christmas and New Year completely spoilt by the partners of 2 of my DC's not getting on and it all kicking off, and the boys now not talking to one another, I can sympathise with Charles and what a difficult position it puts a parent in, and the rest of the family. Even worse for him as its all so bloody public!

I don't.

From all angles it appears he has 'raised' the boys as a royal first, father second. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he hardly knew them.

I agree. I think he hardly knows them and is just pissed off that Harry is inconveniently opening his mouth. I don't think there is much love there.

As for Harry, I think he has spent most of his life wondering about the true circumstances of his mother's death, and about his own, parentage. This is the source of his anger and his desire for revenge on the royal family.

As his son seems to be imploding I imagine he’s very worried and sad.

Worried about the survival of the monarchy, not about Harry.

Good on Harry for exposing this dysfunctional useless family for what they really are.

They are responsible for any hurt/issues that Harry has now. Shame on them.

I can't see Charles as anything other than a tampon with an inkwell fetish.

I feel really sorry for them all too. It’s got to be absolutely devastating to watch it all unfold and be unable to do anything.

Harry has never had to take accountability for anything in his whole life. This book is literally a joke. He’s going to end up a very lonely bitter old man with only himself to blame.

I do wonder will the palace make a statement. Or has Harry been panic calling his family today to try and spin things. I would be very surprised if someone in Buckingham Palace hasn’t managed to get their hands on the book. I’m sure they are well versed on the whole book.

He might have a great relationship with his own kids. Charles admitted to cheating on his mum in an interview so it's not like something has done himself.

ArseInTheDogBowl · 05/01/2023 23:12

Yeah I'm sure his own kids are going to be delighted to have the piss taken out of them in later years for their dad's wonderful piece of literature, and for cutting them off from the rest of their family. I'm sure they'll be so proud to read about about him mounting an older woman like a stallion in a field behind a pub, and having his arse spanked. Oh and the frostbitten knob.

Can't believe the killing 25 admission, jeez

I feel sorry for Kate, I think Charles and William have prepared themselves for this and at times did not help. I feel sorry for Harry (although less than yesterday) as this is not going to provide the closure he is searching for. He wants a legacy but surely anyone with status will not trust him.

Why on earth do you feel sorry for her??

He's survived wanting to live in Camilla's underwear, marriage counselling from upstanding charitable servant and best mate Sir James Savile, accepting millions in cash in carrier bags and hissing at his lackeys over titchy tables and substandard pens in front of the world's cameras.

He's a trouper.

Even though I’m on the fence and do have a bit of sympathy for Charles, this comment wins the thread for me ha ha!

Yes I agree with this too.

But I think he had put his job as POW first, then Camilla, then his dc. I think he is possibly a well-meaning but distant father.

I certainly don’t feel sorry for Charles as I think they should have treated Harry a lot better. There was a shift of power from the Queen to Charles and Harry wasn’t made to feel as if he was important; a “spare” part in other words. Do that to someone who has lost a parent and rattled around boarding school, between parents houses and the Queens estates, and it will bring up all sorts of feelings about having no proper place in the world. It was entirely predictable that he would act the way he did.

I saw an interview with Wills and Harry before “the troubles” where they spoke quite affectionately about their father and how they sometimes came across him asleep over the mound of spidery letters he was writing. Or how they received letters from him at school and Wills said as an aside that Charles hadn’t adopted modern technology. (If that is still the case no wonder he has no time!). And who writes letters to their own dc but maybe that’s totally normal for boarders?

Honestly, this is why we should all vote for a Republic imho. If you are a Monarch you have no choice to put the institution before your own dc. However, Charles seemed to have time to accommodate Camilla and his relationship with her.

Yet on that 2018 documentary about Charles turning 70, both William and Harry praised him warmly. They were full of admiration for his eco credentials and what he'd achieved, and seemed to credit him with being a good father. Harry certainly was far more positive - this was only 4 years ago.

BalloonSlayer · 28/01/2023 17:12

Wouldn't you feel a bit stressed and tetchy if your Mum had just died, you had been thrown headlong into an incredibly high profile job, had cameras watching your every move and could just imagine the headlines if your first act as monarch was to spill an inkwell all over the very first document you had to sign?

I mean, King Charles has his faults but I think we should cut him a bit of slack for that tetchiness.

It's called reaping what one sows, OP.

I have absolutely no sympathy whatsoever.

In what way? Even from what Harry says he sounds like a reasonably good father, one with flaws but one who tried very hard and loves his sons. He has one well adjusted son who seems to get on with him on the whole, and one very disturbed son who has praised him not that long but now seems to feel the whole world is out to get him.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 28/01/2023 20:18

I suspect at his age, his finger joints are stiffening up making pens difficult. The RF needs to be abolished, then poor old Charlie could enjoy his last years pottering in his garden while Camilla sits in a deckchair.

Hmm, I wonder what happened to change Harry's mind so dramatically in the last four years?

I wonder how William and Harry must have felt hearing that Charles wanted to.be a tampon living inside Camilla ,or Diana,s there were three of us in that rmarriage so.it was a bit crowded interview 🤔

I'm sure they found it very difficult. You would think that was a good reason for not doing the same to your own children, no? 🤔

Maireas · 31/01/2023 16:34

The tampon remark ("it would be just my luck to be reincarnated as a tampon") was part of a private conversation, which someone intercepted and made public.
Charles didn't write a tell all book and include it.

Charles and Diana both gave interviews though and Andrew Morton Wrote Diana "My true story " which I'm sure she contributed too.

Yes. Nothing like "Spare" .

Excellent point.

While they both undoubtedly spilled beans they were fairly broad in scope and didn't include the cringingly forensic detail Harold willingly saw fit to bestow on an unwary audience.
