Stupid time to release this Netflix thingy

What a silly time to release this Netflix thing. It's out, it's crashed and burned and we all have Christmas to look forward to. The RF are out on carol services Might have had more effect in Jan when we were all bored. The photo of Charles kissing George on the head will have Meghan ripping her Hermes cover to shreds.

Remember it’s all money - Netflix is about money

TheDofS · 16/12/2022 13:03

I did love the Dahmer one though!

Why would a photograph of her FIL kissing her nephew on the head cause a woman you’ve never met to rip up a blanket due to the timing of her No.1 Netflix programme? Are you OK?

IcedPurple · 18/12/2022 11:03

The ratings top any other Netflix series ever released.

This is just pure fantasy.

It's not even close to what you are claiming.

"For example, Harry & Meghan, a docuseries about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, has generated 81.6 million hours in the first four days since its release Thursday. It still has lots more time in its 28-day window to generate watch-time, but TV shows need nearly half a billion hours watched to make it onto the all-time list, and even the most popular shows and movies need multiple weeks and enduring attention to accumulate enough.

By comparison, Wednesday, the teen supernatural dark comedy series based on the character Wednesday Addams, has accumulated more than 1 billion hours watched in its first 19 days, making it the service's No. 3 most popular series yet, with more than a week left to keep adding up more hours."

Spreading lies and misinformation again I see.

MrsTag · 18/12/2022 16:40

Most of my friends are not watching it. I haven't either. It's all going to be done and dusted by the New Year. It's moaning overload or as I read somewhere -"grief porn".

FanniesFlaps · 18/12/2022 16:42

Just be thankful that the Queen is no longer alive to see it. They were quite happy for that!

CaptainBarbosa · 18/12/2022 16:49

I've not watched it. I think I've got the general idea though, two people who are unhappy about things sit on couch for 6 hours saying what they are unhappy about with montages of images.

But like a X factor winners music video with the sob story added into it about how when they were 3 the bin man ran over their cat, and now they don't like bin men, and the sound of the bin lorry triggers them.

LBFseBrom · 18/12/2022 16:53

Which Netflix thingy, something new? I will check, enjoy well made royal family documentaries, find them relaxing and interesting; I like history and the current documentaries will have historical significance.

I don't think it matters about the timing, it's something to watch if there's nothing much else of interest - and we don't have to watch anything we don't fancy!

Off to check Netflix now.....

Yes that is indeed a sombre thought.

That’s not true, where are you getting that from?

Wednesday smashed it out of the water, as has been said.

I thought it would be less whining tbh.

I knew there would be some obviously, but yes as a PP said, I thought there would be more in it to do with the work Archewell does, (still none the wiser!) invictus etc.

I didn’t think it would be about how everyone is racist and Britain’s colonial past complete with misleading edits of the Queens speech.

For balance, I really liked seeing the Grenfell work at the mosque, and the cookbook etc. I wish there would have been more content like that.

Gliere · 18/12/2022 17:02

I was thinking yesterday, after a glass of wine, it was a clever time to release it.

I had decided I wasn't going to watch it...up until yesterday. Now I've got time off work and scratching around for things to do with a cold and zero motivation to do something more productive - there it was on Netflix as the no.1 show...tempting me. I wondered how many other people like me would cave with more time on their hands over Christmas...

I managed less than four minutes though before turning over to watch Christmas at Warwick castle. It was pretty bad but the blatant lie about not being able to remember the interview (that only occurred in 2015) and pretending to guess what she said to one of the questions...it was just too much. Then I started wondering if I counted as having watched that episode now? and if so what percentage of people who started to watch it watched the entire first episode?

It’s not at all like that.

And the bin man/cat analogy is deeply unpleasant if you’re using it as a comparison to his mother’s violent car crash with paps taking photos through the window as she was dying, and a 12-year-old boy walking behind a coffin watched by millions.

LBFseBrom · 18/12/2022 18:07

I haven't seen anything new featuring King Charles on Netflix, I just looked.
There is something on ITVX which was released in November but nothing newer. It would help if you gave us the programme's name, op. Maybe it is going to be released at Christmas.

bakalava · 18/12/2022 18:12

It was released just in time to be given their haloes and messianically declared. Well, that was the plan, anyway.

CathyorClaire · 18/12/2022 20:10

It's been released a month before The Book launches.

The two were never going to clash.

The downside is we now have more weeks of snippets and teasers. We already have predictions it's going to be down low and dirty but as much the same was promised of the documentary there's every likelihood it won't deliver.

IcedPurple · 18/12/2022 20:20

I wonder how the publishers feel about the Netflix 'documentary' being released so soon before the 'memoirs'?

Surely there's a limit to much the public are interested in hearing how hard it is to be enjoy massive unearned wealth and privilege?

And provided you have a NF subscription, the 'documentary' was free. Are people really going to shell out good money for more of the same in the 'memoirs'? And yes, it will be more of the same.

I think its called Exorcist II : The Heretic?

CathyorClaire · 18/12/2022 20:24

I think NF planned their release to 'scoop' the book as soon as the latter's launch date was revealed.

The publishers must be gnashing their teeth unless of course the book really does contain new material.

CathyorClaire · 18/12/2022 20:31

unless of course the book really does contain new material

Actually there were reports yesterday that it contains allusions to Harry losing his virginity to a 'beautiful older woman' in a countryside tryst which leaves me hoping for more barrel scraping revelations as surely that's all he has left to sell.

Did feel sorry for Elizabeth Hurley being dragged in though.

No the inference wasn't to his mother.

The inference was to moaning about nothing really and making a ho ha about it.

I can't feel sorry for two multimillionaires who have their position and wealth through birth right and marriage, moaning about stuff, crying and having a pout about a sibling shouting at them, whilst people are starving and freezing in their homes, because they weren't lucky enough to be born a prince, or the daughter of a Hollywood industry man with connections, who then married a prince because of her "social circle" introducing them on a blind date.

The two of them are where they are because of birth and marriage, not because they earned or worked hard at anything.

It's like just be quiet and enjoy your privileged life, collecting your awards and pretty dresses. Sorry you don't get on with your in-laws/family. But that's life sometimes.

The rest of us are trying to survive 🤷🏻‍♀️

SparklyAntlers · 18/12/2022 20:50

Bear in mind Netflix is international - it's the most watched programme in Ireland for the last week. I've no idea what other royals get up to on a day to day basis -
or at any time really unless it's a wedding or funeral - so I highly doubt it entered the heads of the Netflix bigwigs. But it seems like good timing as we're all getting together for Christmas and the documentary has been an inevitable conversation topic so it's certainly got everyone's attention.
