What is NOT in the Netflix documentary?

When it comes to racism there is no mention of Prince Philip's offensive behaviour. There is no mention of, or apology for, Prince Harry's racist and offensive behaviour.

When it comes to the poisonous nature of the monarchy, there is no mention of Andrew. Or inheritance tax. Or employment law.

What have I missed?

It talks women in general. With pictures of Diana, Catherine and one of Eugenie.

There was footage of paparazzi calling out derogatory words at Catherine so she’d turn and look at them so they could get a photo.

When it comes to press coverage there is no mention of how Catherine, Sophie, Camilla, Sarah, Diana etc. were treated.”

Yes there was, did you watch it OP?

No positivity or gratitude from H&M for all they have been given by the RF and British public.

I think criticism of this statement is fair actually. They do show footage of Diana and a young Catherine, being papped. On the other hand they suggest that what Meghan endured was a lot worse, and there's no mention of the horrible headlines Camilla, Sarah etc suffered.
It's difficult to get a handle on what the actual message of their story is meant to be. It's quite contradictory.

TBF we are only half way through and have no idea what is in the second three episodes.

Grantanow · 12/12/2022 09:44

No mention of how much money they are making from the series! Will there be an aftermarket in tee shirts, plastic figures, nazi emblems, etc.?

WinnieTheW0rm · 12/12/2022 09:46

What have I missed?

a) that there are 3 more episodes yet to come
b) that this is an Archewell co-production about H&M and they are under no obligation to include anything other than what they want to

Charlieiscool · 12/12/2022 09:53

There was a lot of talk about how they wanted to serve but then they haven’t done that. They’ve put their energy into becoming super rich.

LemonDrizzles · 12/12/2022 10:30
  • who is the friend with whom they met via Instagram
  • Nicky from eton last name?
  • does she know eugenie? How?

Yes there is.

They had the line "all the soon to be wives any through this" and showed Sarah implying that headlines exist

Just a few out of many come to mind.
No acknowledgement that Diana was Williams mum too.And she leant very heavily on him for emotional support at as a young teenager. It's as if Harry has trademarked her image for his and Meghans use only.Any acknowledgement how in the not too distant past he spoke warmly of his father and how he'd been there for him.
The fact that Meghan wore a veil embroidered-at no insignificant cost no doubt-emblamatic of all the Commonwealth countries and yet so soon after trashes the fact its now a voluntary organisation for countries that wish to form close ties.

Peasepuddingbloodycold · 15/12/2022 17:56

No participation from their high profile friends and wedding guests - the Cloonies, Oprah, the Obamas etc.

(I'd love to know what Michelle Obama makes of it all. No doubt she'd say something classy that would instantly make me feel ashamed of my MN-ing).

My impression is that Harry puts Meghan on a pedestal, like his mother, and then cannot understand why other people cannot see how amazing she is. So even a luke-warm response feels like a slap in the face.

And then the only explanation is that they must be jealous or racist - whereas they might just not like her very much. We don't all like the same people, even quite innocuous people can get on our nerves, but they have other people who like them.

Its pretty obvious that the message is the institution has this agreement with the press and the intrusion is too much that it doesn't matter who joins the Royal family its same abuse by the press over and over and with Meghan it ratcheted up to a whole new level.

He is right when he clearly said when will the institution say enough is enough, time to stop. Except they don't. So the only thing to do is leave and walk away and by being financially independent the press cannot use the excuse of its in the public interest cos they are not receiving taxpayers money.

In one of the first 3 episodes, it specifically focussed on the party Harry went to dressed as a Nazi and he was extremely apologetic for it. It also explained how he went to Berlin and spoke to holocaust survivors after it happened.
He went on to say how he regretted being unconsciously racist or something along those lines and he wanted to be better.

Morestrangethings · 16/12/2022 03:17

I know what was not in the documentary yet many people insisted it was.

Meghan was not crying while sitting on a chair with a Hermes blanket behind her, she was laughing.

So will everyone that had a go at Meghan for being so insensitive to be crying while sitting next to a Hermes blanket - put their hands up now please, and post that they got that wrong?

Meghan was posting extremely warm messages about her father on the Tig until very shortly before she met Harry (the last one - all about how wonderful he is, was Father's Day 2017). But then such a breach occurred that she did not even arrange for Harry to meet him in person, and then of course we all know he was left to the wolves of the press with only the odd text as protection.

It's the missing bit of the jigsaw that I've always wanted to find - what caused such a breach that caused her to completely change her attitude?

(Yes, I know that's just my curiosity, and I don't really expect let alone demand an answer)

Using racial slurs about a colleague isn't exactly unconscious racism...

No mention of the less than eco-conscious shooting of a water buffalo.

No clearing up the questions over the shooting of protected birds of prey.

No reference to likening the army days killing of people on the ground to a video game.

No clarification on how the Frogmore repayment came to include eighteen months rent without actually increasing.

No explanation for the placing of what were originally charitable donations to the Royal Foundation into his private travel company and thus beyond scrutiny and no explanation of how said company accrued debtors and creditors during a global pandemic when no-one was travelling.

Maybe these will be addressed in the book but so far all we've heard is that his rurally based teenage fumblings with a beautiful older woman didn't involve Liz Hurley so I'm not holding my breath
