Hello,

Does anyone know how the accessible queue works please I want to take my profoundly deaf sister in and my 81 year old nan with mobility issues as she has a terrible knee? Would we be ok to join? How long is it roughly? How does it work?
Thanks in advance 😀

The arrangements are laid out on the government website (gov.co.uk)

and this was on the BBC

Yeah I saw this but wanted to know if you can sit down the whole duration of your wait and roughly how long the wait would be?

You get timed slots so it’s not the same level of standing/waiting around

Hi, I just posted about my experience on another thread, but I will share here as well. I went at 6:30 this morning, got my wristband at seven, and went through at 7:30. If you want to go, go. It is well organized, there is seating at the Tate modern and tea and coffee. There are people around to help. I am blind, and was alone this morning, so a civil servant walked me to the Tate modern, and went through the line with me and she also had a chance to see the queen when she brought me through. I don’t think she would have otherwise. It will be a memorable experience that will happen only once in my lifetime. The atmosphere in the hall is indescribable by the way, and worth going. There are sign language interpreters as well, you just have to ask. Not everyone, even some of the people who work around Westminster are aware that there is an accessible queue.

One more thing, if you see this message in time, and if you can, I would say maybe try and go early in the morning. I did hear that in the evening, there are more people and the waiting time is slightly longer. It’s still nothing like the other line, but it might just be easier if you go in the early morning. Also, you go in through a separate security and a separate entrance with step free access. They are very strict about liquids, so you can bring drinks and food with you, but you will have to get rid of them before you go in. I hope this helps. It’s well worth going if you really want to go. And you can always bring something to do, cards, a book, and a thing if you need to wait at the Tate modern. I had a fully charged iPod with an audiobook and headphones this morning, but I didn’t even need it. I went through much quicker than I expected to. Please don’t let the people on the other threads who have not been, and saying that the key was very very long, put you off. I have done it this morning, and it’s a lot easier than I thought it would be.

In the accessible line, did they ask for proof of disability, disabled parking permit or other evidence etc etc???

Hellokittymania · 15/09/2022 23:14

No, they didn’t ask for anything. And you are allowed to take one companion with you, so if you’re in a wheelchair and you need someone to push you, that’s fine. I went alone, because I have no one to take me, but they gave me someone who walked with me to get my wristband and who went through to see the queen with me. She was really great. She described everything to me when we came out. And I asked her when we were passing the queen, just stop my arm. So she did. Just tap my arm. I’m sorry I’m using dictation

I walked past the accessible queue today. It was LONG. Half way down Millbank then doubling back along the side of Tate Britain. Very friendly though. Everyone seemed to be having a good time.
