The circle of wealth

Can anyone please explain where this circle of wealth the Royal family enjoys comes from.
We know that William and Harry received inheritances from Diane and the Queen mother, who would also presumably left generous amounts to other grand and great grand children. I'm assuming phillips will was similar. What about Princess Margaret?
Will Camilla and Catherine also have vast sums to leave? Where will they have acquired them from? I'm aware Diane herself inherited money but surely she must've had income also to have been able to leave behind such signifigant inheritances?
It just seems the Royal family has grown a lot in recent years, 4 children and spouses, 8 grandchildren, and around a dozen or so great grandchildren so far, possibly more to come, plus a beloved niece, nephew and their children.
If history is anything to go by they'll all get an inheritance from the queen.
What funds all of this, we hear about the queen's personal wealth been different from taxpayers funds but what drives each royals personal wealth and how are they growing it enough to leave ample behind for the future 2nd and 3rd generations to live very privileged lives off?

Regarding the priceless Art and jewellery collection, that can't be earning money just sitting there surely?
Another question if the Royal family were to be dissolved or whatever the word for ending the monarchy is, what assets would they retain?
Would they broker a deal or be stripped of everything except personal assets?

A lot of the art etc is not their personal stuff it belongs to the nation

@TarasChoc theoretically they could ask for the Crown Estates back if the monarchy was dissolved and the tax payer would lose the income from them.

It is unlikely however, they’d probably just keep their personal assets. That doesn’t include any of the art, the palaces, crowns, most of the jewellery. Just the things at Balmoral and Sandringham.

And the cash they have stashed in tax havens, eh? See the ‘paradise papers’.

Iamthewombat · 08/09/2022 11:26

In reality if we ever abolished them they’d try to weasel their way into keeping stuff that is ours. Like the former Greek royal family tried to do, although now they are just tragic twats rattling around the world sponging off rich friends and clinging onto defunct royal titles.

Speaking of the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall, noticeably it's never been adequately explained why these weren't rolled up in the holdings handed to parliament in return for the Civil List, as arranged by George III

It's suggested that they weren't worth so much then and were somehow "forgotten", but given the RF's behaviour throughtout history I expect there was a bit more to it than that and it's turned out to be another heads we win tails you lose situation

Again Hmm

The one rule for us and another law for everyone else

Yup, that's pretty much inherent in a monarchy, even a constitutional one where the government is all on behalf of the monarch

1000 years of compound interest has probably done good things for personal wealth too.

RoseAndRose · 08/09/2022 11:58

They aren't just the Royals for UK. They might need to continue to exist (and with assets) for as long as they were regnant anywhere.

Iamthewombat · 08/09/2022 12:54

Where else are they the monarchy of?

They didn’t give up on trying to lay claim to the crown of France until after the French Revolution so perhaps they still think that a former grand duchy in Germany is theirs. Unless they move to the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, that would be a laugh. All the tax dodgers together.

TarasChoc · 08/09/2022 13:03

Interested too to hear where else they are monarchy of. Do they have assets in those countries too?

The Queen is still officially the head of state in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, Saint Lucia, Solomon Islands, St Kitts and Nevis, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

(yes, I did c+p that list from Google).

Iamthewombat · 08/09/2022 14:29

Hahahaha. I’m sure that the Aussies and the Kiwis will be falling over themselves to build palaces for the royal family and fund their extravagant lifestyles. Liz and Co should declare themselves the ruling monarchy of the Solomon Islands and move there, though. That would be a laugh. Going to the opening of Parliament in a war canoe.

Britain is only very small and lacks in resources to make them that wealthy.
The vast majority if their wealth came from Colonisation of other lands, Owning the biggest companies during the Slave Trade which made them very wealthy. You only have to visit the Colonies to see how many towns, cities, schools, hospitals etc are named after the Royals and over time how much has been taken from those countries.
