"Prince William and Kate have advertised for a full-time “digital lead” based at Kensington Palace. Candidates must be creative and have the “ability to handle sensitive information with tact and discretion at all times”.
The Cambridges also want a senior HR manager. Deadlines for applications are next month."

From The Sun

Just in case anyone is interested.

You should go for this antelope - it'll give you chance to tell them all the places they're going wrong! <joke>

antelopevalley · 27/07/2022 14:53

Yeah maybe I will.
I am probably not white enough though.

William and Kate hiring yet another marketing /social media person? They hired Harry and Meghan's old social media manager to be their Digital Lead just two years ago, and they seem to be constantly announcing new private secretaries and communications staff.

Why can't they keep staff? They go through their staff like water!

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 27/07/2022 16:20

Two years is a pretty standard time for someone to stay in a job. Royal family pay isn't great but the status is huge. It's not beyond the bounds of probability that people take roles there to boost their CVs and then move onto their next position. I don't think there's anything particularly remarkable about this.

To be fair jobs in IT 2 years is about standard before you move, so its probably more around the nature of the industry than the job itself

antelopevalley · 27/07/2022 16:34

People tend to stay with the Queen for a long time.

@StolenWillowTree

Have they ? I doubt it’s as many as Harry and Meghan have lost .
For example C and W have had the same nanny for 9 years .

antelopevalley · 27/07/2022 16:43

Although a load of staff left when the Queen's health looked worse. The speculation was that staff were worried they would soon be out of a job. When the Queen Mother died the staff lost their jobs overnight.

I wasn't aware of a load of staff leaving when HM was sick. However, I remember the situation when the Queen Mother died, and some staff were treated badly - from what we understand (ie. media reports). Hopefully the RF have learned from this.

NancyJoan · 27/07/2022 19:01

Creative/digital media jobs tend to be filled by fairly young people, and they move on quickly. A couple of years at Ken Palace and they’d be snapped up someone offering a higher salary.

antelopevalley · 27/07/2022 23:08

@ajandjjmum I am not sure anything will change. When a member of the family dies, the jobs no longer exist, so their jobs end then.
So it made sense for some to jump to other jobs if they were worried their jobs would soon be gone.
She seems to have rallied though.

I would rather scrub toilets all day than work for those paraites...

Parasites

I suppose it's the same in any large organisation when you work in the 'personal office' of the CEO - people are moved if there is something suitable within the organisation, move on with the CEO to their next position, or sadly are made redundant if neither is the case.

I think it's 'Backstairs Billy' that drew a lot of attention when the QM died, as he was really struggling, although from 'media gossip', that was partly down to the fact that he thought he was as important as the QM! Grin I did read that Charles went to see him, and things changed.

antelopevalley · 28/07/2022 12:43

Negative media gossip about an individual with little power who can't defend himself is pretty vile.
And thinking he is important as the Queen might in practice simply mean that he thought he mattered as a human being.
Personally, I disagree that if a member of the Royal Family dies they should lose their jobs that day. There should be a period of gardening leave - say 6 months, to help them get other jobs. They can afford it.
But the Royal Family are famously mean with their staff paying them very low wages for the "honour" of working for them. So nothing will change.

Well I don't know if a digital lead can get stuff taken down on Twitter...! I don't think those rumours this morning were talking about pegging the washing out, either.

antelopevalley · 28/07/2022 13:06

The videos of Catherine recoiling from the Jamaican Minister seem to have been taken down.

I didn't say 'negative', I just said 'media gossip'. Much of it was sympathetic towards him and his situation.

Backstairs Billy had been with the QM for many years, and was treated very well by her. I'm sure he wasn't made homeless the day she died - there was bound to be a period of grace!

Fundamentally though we are all as important as the QM or the Queen. And equally all as unimportant as the QM or Queen.

I appreciate that's not the existential statement you were making though 😁

"Some months after the Queen Mother’s death in March 2002, Billy received a short letter telling him that Gate Lodge had to be vacated. The deadline gave him little time, but he obediently packed his things and left. There was no leaving party, no letter of thanks, no formal goodbye. An official made sure he was out on time."

He had worked for them for 51 years. So pretty shocking treatment actually. If you employ someone for 51 years you show your appreciation with a leaving party, present, card.

You stated upthread @antelopevalley that they should be given 6 months gardening leave. Clearly he was given 'some months', so they did what you thought should be done. Charles then arranged for him to be given a Duchy of Cornwall apartment in London - so he wasn't thrown out on to the streets!

The lack of a leaving party is surprising, but I'm not sure that others in the household were his biggest fans, so maybe they just didn't organise anything for him.

Charles stayed in touch and visited him in hospital before he died.

antelopevalley · 29/07/2022 01:16

@ajandjjmum It is what I thought should happen. Even without a party a card and gift would be standard. After 51 years I do find it shocking this was not given.
I thought Charles only visited after the newspapers got involved?

I think a roof over his head was more important than a party.

Ethelswith · 29/07/2022 10:38

He had a roof over his head - one of the flats near Kennington Cross (zone 1/2 boundary) which belonged to the Duchy of Cornwall

ajandjjmum · 29/07/2022 11:13

I know. I was responding to a previous post where it was assumed he'd been thrown out of Clarence House with nowhere to go.
