Martin Bashir allegedly told Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, that Charles was having an affair with William & Harry’s nanny, Tiggy Legge-Bourke, and this had resulted in a pregnancy which was terminated. This was one of the reasons which led to Diana taking part in Bashir’s Panorama interview.

The accusation caused Legge-Bourke great distress. “She felt she had to prove to others that the allegations were untrue by revealing highly sensitive matters, including private medical information”.

I think at the time the claim was viewed as highly suspect by the public.
Sadly the media were pretty sure Charles was having affairs and so any woman he was close to seemed to be put under media suspicion.

It’s right that she should receive damages for the lies that Bashir told Diana (and the world), but, once again, none of the people responsible for allowing the untrue claims to be made are paying. It’s OUR money, BBC licence payers money. It’s infuriating when public bodies receive fines, that very rarely do those who make the ‘mistakes’ actually suffer financially.
When it’s said that The Government pays……that’s OUR money, our taxes!
Why can’t the people responsible have their property seized? Okay, it wouldn’t raise a massive amount, but at least it would be some punishment, and make them think about their actions.
