The royal family

If I was the Queen this would have really pissed me off!

So I just saw this clip of the Queen cutting a huge cake. I’m not sure the occasion or date but relatively recent looking at her.

It’s clear she’s not got the arm strength to manage the whole thing but she approaches it with humour and good grace and does fine. It’s actually a lovely clip of her.

What irradiated the duck I it of me though was whoever it was off camera chiming in and patronisingly speaking ‘for her’, as if just because she is elderly that somehow that must mean she needs to be spoken to like a child.

If I’d been the Queen I think I’d have poked her with the knife to shut her up!

I think you're overthinking this somewhat

Marmite27 · 24/03/2022 18:44

I think you’re over reacting. I’d surmise from the voice speaking it was one of her ladies in waiting.

EssexLioness · 24/03/2022 18:45

I don’t see the issue tbh. Agree you’re overthinking it.

I'm not sure I'd have the arm strength to hold a handbag on my arm, hold a big knife, look elegant and then cut a very thick cake. Especially at her height.

As for the voice, it's a rather normal sort of way for certain types of people to talk. Not necessarily patronising in their circles/lives. All part of a cushier type of life.

Those of us from the mean streets have tougher ways of speaking and looking at things. The lady in waiting definitely doesn't share that background, nor does HM.

moonbedazzled · 24/03/2022 19:15

Sounds like that was her lady-in-waiting? I'm sure the Queen is more than capable of putting anyone in their place if she wanted too.

SickAndTiredAgain · 24/03/2022 19:22

The voice is the Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk, if it’s relevant.

I think she’s just being a little overly deferential, rather than patronising.

Sharrowgirl · 24/03/2022 19:24

I suspect most people behave a bit oddly around the Queen - they’re nervous.

I've watched this twice now and can't find the irradiated duck anywhere!! Grin

I think its absolutely fine, the queen has many years experience in handling slightly awkward situations with good grace.

The voice was just agreeing with what she was saying, can't find anything wrong with it.

@Partyatnumber10 😁😁😁

I think that's just regular fawning. She's probably more used to it than the rest of us.

cabansunset · 25/03/2022 13:15

Yes I agree regular fawning that she'll be well used to.
