It must be a bit dusty in here - watching the amazing Chelsea Pensioner Bill Speakman.

After smiling at the account of colleague who learned to strip down a Bedford truck with her.

"RudeElf - I heard that for Charles to pass the baton straight to Will, he'd need to abdicate, which requires passing an act of Parliament and the abdicator's children also get taken out of the line of succession."

This was on a another thread earlier today (won't link as I think it was in chat, so will self-extinguish idc). It's not the case that abdication has to be on behalf of issue as well. The only time it has happened is with Edward VIII, who had no children at the time. Once someone has been born into the line of succession, there they stay, and can inherit even if their immediate progenitor never becomes monarch.

I like the idea of Cams ringing the Queen for racing tips. Eugene seems reasonably sensible but Beatrice seems unable to string a sentence together.

EdithWeston · 27/03/2016 22:01

Good idea RudeElf

(I've just tried, but YouTube won't open for some reason, so I'll have to try again later)

There's also a thread in "Telly Addicts"

(Sorry, hadn't spotted it when I started this one)

How do you think they decided which members of the family would appear?

I couldn't help noticing that, even though there was quite a lot on the Queen's horsiness, there was not a word from her equestrian daughter and grand-daughter.

clippityclop · 27/03/2016 22:16

I wonder why Prince Edward didn' t take part? His wife seemed lovely.

WhatamessIgotinto · 27/03/2016 22:19

I bloody love the Queen. I have no idea why, I don't consider myself a Royalist, but I see so many posts about her doing nothing and having a cushy life and I just don't think that's true. She has money, but that doesn't mean her life has been a breeze and I wouldn't have her role for all the money in the world. When I'm 90 I would like to be sitting on my arise doing bugger all.

WhatamessIgotinto · 27/03/2016 22:22

clippity I met the Countess of Wessex last year and she was absolutely lovely. She was so kind to DD (8) and chatted to her for about 15 minutes and gave her a little hug when she left. Lovely, warm woman. DD had no idea who she was which I thought was rather lovely.

RudeElf · 27/03/2016 22:23

I agree whatamess. You couldnt pay me any amount to do her job. I'm just not built for the stress of it. Thankfully she is.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 27/03/2016 22:37

Even though this was definitely at the fluffy end of Royal documentaries, it was still unmistakeable that there's a lot more to what they do than standing round in good jewellery.

She must have phenomenal energy to have kept it all going for so very long (even allowing for a couple of lengthy breaks a year).

VertigoNun · 27/03/2016 22:37

I think Beatrice is dyslexic, she seems a sweet young woman. Kate doesn't speak very clearly at all, words blend into each other.

EdithWeston · 27/03/2016 22:50

I see what you mean VertigoNun but I thought the Duchess just sounded a bit nervous/unconfident.

I think very anxious indeed. She spent half the time talking about herself, gifts she was given, her chutney and how she resonates with the Queen.

FiveSixPickUpSticks · 27/03/2016 23:01

what exactly do Beatrice and Eugenie 'do'?

Not a lot Wink

EdithWeston · 27/03/2016 23:15

Beatrice: worked for Sony for a while, now on a course in US (not sure what, where or how long)

Eugenie: worked for a New York auction house, now at a London art gallery.

Does anyone know why Beatrice and Eugenie are princesses but Edwards daughter Louise is a lady?

EdithWeston · 27/03/2016 23:25

I assume it's by choice, because as the daughter of the son of a monarch, she could be HRH Princess Louise of Wessex. Instead she and her brother were given the style of the children of an earl.

It didn't top the viewing figures - that went to The Night Manager

(NB: that link contains a warning of spoilers for TNM)

EdithWeston · 31/03/2016 20:58

I can't find the speech I was after on YouTube

Hence posting at a different time of day to see if anyone (possibly a WI member?) spots this and knows if it's available anywhere.
