Adoption of cats from Dubai

I'm looking at adopting a cat from UK Homes for Desert Paws. Does anyone have experience of this? There's beautiful cats there looking for homes. They say that they will be spayed, vaccinated and health checked etc.
I think a lot of the cats are Arabian Maus - does anyone know what they are generally like? Google says they are friendly..and chatty!

Yes but the rescues in the UK won't allow us to have any old cat - they are very strict.. I have already been trying for almost a year. Id rather rescue from abroad than purchase a UK kitten.

Of course the other option is to go into work and make sure everyone knows you are looking - a friend of a friend of a friend will turn out to be looking for homes for kittens.

After getting my Mau, because I also was not going to give money to a UK kitten farmer, I ended up inundated with offers of free kittens.

Yeah I really really want to adopt rather than purchase a kitten. But if the UK rescues won't let me because of the busy road, having children and no cat flap, I think adopting abroad is the best option.

We adoored our gorgeous persian cat (Daniel) from Sandy Paws, also based in Dubai. He was dumped by previous owners and very miss treated. As the other people with actual experience has said, there is no quaranteen. We had to contribute £250 towards the cost of his transfer to Glasgow. Abandoned Cats are a big issue in the UAE and they are not allowed to find raise over there. It takes decent people in the UK to save these poor cats. Disappointed to see all the 'Reformesque' like on here "What's wrong with British cats", "We need to look after our own". We love our little chap and he is so grateful that we have him a home.

It's not Reformesque to say there are thousands of cats in the UK so why would you go to the lengths of funding a cat to be transported?

But everyone who puts a post on " is Dubai good for a holiday" will get a load of " no I wouldn't pay to go somewhere with such shocking human rights especially to woman"
So the women , the horses , the donkeys, the dogs, the cats.
Most people ( myself included) have no idea how badly animals are treated .
I have seen some dreadful abuse of working horses and donkeys in Egypt. Over worked , harness wounds etc, . They have charities like Brooke to provide care and education.

I didn't know that charity and animal rescue was non existent in UAE.
I know pets are dumped when people move though.
Building work has taken a lot of their habitat .

Cats seem to come very low down the list everywhere.

the “rescues in the UK can be very picky” only really goes for the RSPCA, cats protection etc. there is a big list of private rescues and they are far more approachable. I got my cat from one such rescue, now follow them on insta and there is an endless stream of rescued cats from the street and neglectful homes.

Look for a private rescue not just the main cat charities and you will find them far more accommodating of your circumstances.

Maybe I'm just unlucky where I live as the private ones are just as strict sometimes even stricter - one of them request that you have a cat flap installed and if you haven't got one you have to promise you'll get one installed within a certain time frame. Very strict on busy roads too. I had more luck with the bigger ones as at least they were willing to put us on a list for indoor cats (cats with fiv and eyesight issues etc)

I did notice there were a lot more rescues around London/Birmingham etc. which seemed to have much more relaxed criteria. I did think about asking them if they wouldn't mind us travelling to them, but I wondered if they then wouldn't be able to do the house inspection visits etc.

Try Pet Search Rescue Adoptions in Birmingham - we just sent a video/photos and were accepted a few hours later.

I brought my Arabian Mau back from Fubai when I liked there 10 years ago. There is no quarantine as there is some agreement between the UK and UAE but they require pet passport.
My experience of this breed is that they are lovely and quite friendly but a little reserved. but because they have been street cats they are not likely to be lap cats etc. They are also quite vocal.

Why not @CrackheadAnneRobinsonlookalike ? The comments are very much the familiar look after your own Reform rhetoric. I'm surprised no-one has raised the fact that the rescues from abroad are all of fighting age!

Worth a try .
We did have a house check before the moggies came to us but they'd already done a street view search and DD saw a Cat Protection League van drive down our road so probably sussing out how busy it was.
I know COVID changes loads . You could get a lot done by Teams?
