New kittens not eating

We adopted 2 kittens from a rescue on Fri, they are 3 months old. Spayed/neutered, fleas, wormed and vet checked. They were in a trusted foster.
since arrival they seem to have settled well lots of playing, purring and coming for cuddles but they are hardly eating. At most half a kitten pouch between them and a tbsp of kitten kibble. One vomited 3 times in the day yesterday and once overnight. Comity is very bright yellow.

He had an appointment at the vets for his final vaccination today so we got him checked over, no fever, heart sounded ok. They gave him an anti sickness injection and said to call back if no improvement. They deferred his vaccine. Since coming home he’s had 1/2 a tube treat and nothing else and sleeping a lot. Still purring and affectionate when awake. The other kitten has eaten very little too.

im so worried about them. Any tips to encourage eating/drinking? If there’s no improvement over night I’ll call the vets tomorrow.

Sorry if it’s a silly question but you are feeding them the same food as they were on aren’t you?

cats will refuse to eat food they no longer like, they will starve themselves rather than eat something they don’t fancy. I’d try a really good tasty cat food like Untamed to see if it’s just the good they don’t like.

Very cute little monkeys! Btw

Have you tried little bits of cooked chicken?

largeprintagathachristie · 18/08/2026 19:28

Could you mix in a bit of lik-e-lix into their wet food?

disclaimer - that’s if lik-e-lix if safe for kittens…

To answer the above, we were feeding them the same food they were having in foster care. I’ve tried adding lik-e-lix with some success but mainly they just lick at it and don’t eat the ‘meat’. I tried a tin of untamed yesterday again with some success.
I wonder if it may be a bug as the one that was being sick has perked up a bit and has eaten some kibble and more of the untamed chicken but the other kitten has now been sick, just bile. They were happy chasing each other and playing again and I did see her have a few bits of kibble and she was licking at the untamed meat. Hopefully the first one is getting better and the other one will be better tomorrow. There just so small. I have some tuna in spring water I could try even if it’s just the house to keep them hydrated.
Thank you for your suggestions.

When my cat is funny with food I sprinkle a bit of Purina fortflora on it and he then gobbles it down. It's a probiotic.

As someone else said try some boiled chopped chicken breast, can add a little water to it. When my cat is off her food she usually always manages a little of this.

Have you got anything in the house that they may be nibbling on that could be causing sickness? Any unusual plants or fancy plug ins? Are they walking on cleaning spray?

my full grown cats have 1 full tin of untamed each per day split into two meals, if you’re kittens are eating half a tin that sounds about right, you don’t want to overfeed them! Knock the kibble on the head and stick with untamed wet food if they will eat it.
