Penelope’s insurance renewal has gone up £400 and they want me to pay £91 a month, she’s only 6! The best quote I’ve had is animal Friends. Are they any good?

I’ve always been with Tesco and been very happy with them. But this price hike is ridiculous. I will ring them and see if they can bring it down. The only issue is that her eyes wouldn’t be covered.

I had the same. Tesco increased my payment by a ridiculous amount so I changed to Animal Friends

They doubled it last year but said it was because we’d had two claims in month, and it would even out next year. If we had no claims.

The only issue is that her eyes won’t be covered with a new provider as it would be an existing condition. But not sure it’s worth £91 a month just for that. Her ears are already excluded. And she has no teeth

I'm having same issue now.

Premium risen massively and a new policy would be a quarter of renewal.

She had BOAS breathing surgery so that wouldn't be covered but that was years ago and everything been fine so can't imagine andything related to that being needed.

And a few other routine things that I just pay for anyways as not worth claiming with excess that I can't envision turning into issues that require a large payout.

So do I pay massive new rates that are only going to go up and up as she is almost a senior or just cut my losses and hope she never has a preexisting emergency?

Maybe I could take out a new cheaper policy but put away the difference ££ between that and what the fully covered renewal would be to have a little cash pot too for something not covered? And if i don't end up needing it its just some savings?

Always use them to insure my elderly cats. They are straightforward to use, pay out without any fuss and - when I have finally got around to telling them a cat has died - instantly refund any premiums paid since death.

@NhsAefulthats what I’m thinking of doing. Although as people on here know, my cars don’t do simple things!

Pet insurance is very postcode dependent - and type/breed and age of pet and your previous claims.

And if you move to a new insurer, they won't cover previous conditions.

Yes, I’ve been with them for 9 years. I think they’ve been great, and always process claims fairly quickly and efficiently.

Yep, I’ve just had a big payout for a heart condition for my cat. Luckily I had the top cover of 4 k. They paid out over 3k. The only thing to watch is different clauses I.e hospital nights cost 400 each but they only pay first 100 etc so I had to find some myself. The great thing though is that despite paying this out in Dec, when it renewed in April it was still only 26 per month- I was expecting double that as the same condition is still covered.

I know they won’t consider previous conditions, I’m wondering if it’s worth taking the risk to avoid the huge premiums, given the issues have had a permanent fix
