Introducing ten-year-old cat to our orange whirlwind

It looks like we will have my MIL’s cat coming to stay with us on a temp to permanent basis. He’s ten, and our cat is three and quite “lively” (ginger). Both cats have lived with other cats before so I think that will be okay - our boy is currently out hanging out with next door’s boy cat in their garden.

We have a spare room we can use as an initial base for MIL’s cat, and he will come with all his kit. We can get Feliway etc, and do scent swapping before they meet.

Any tips? I’m concerned because we will need to keep MIL’s cat in for at least a few weeks and our boy goes out (which I wouldn’t be willing to stop him doing even short term).

MIL knows I won’t tolerate Louie - our cat - being upset, and worst case scenario her cat can go to a cattery if it’s all a disaster. He’s a sweet boy though and if we can make it work then I’d be happy to have him. (She’s sold her house and is going to be living with other family short-term until she finds somewhere to buy. There is a chance her cat would remain here when she does buy a new place depending on how things pan out.)

Cat tax of our lovely boy in exchange for any advice!

He’s such a cutie isn’t he - I’m worried about upsetting him by moving another cat in. He lived with his brother (abandoned by the mum cat) before we adopted him and wants to be friends with all the neighbouring cats, so hopefully he will be fine.

Our last girl hated every other cat, and saw any interlopers to the garden off ferociously, so this wouldn’t have been even a question a few years ago.

Ah you might get a fit of the sulks for a bit but they’ll both get on with it in the end!
My tortie never quite forgave us for getting a replacement jellicle when her extremely thick brother went to say hello to some headlights. But she did get around to washing said B&W cat’s ears in the end.
I currently have two litter mate brothers who are inseparable.

@Lolamorte that’s encouraging to hear! I’d like to hope Angus might calm Louie down a bit, but it’s probably more likely Louie will be a bad influence.
