Has anyone found catnip seems to help keep fleas away?

Just noticed the other day, neither of my cats have had fleas for a good year.
Oh I’m not complaining.
Has anyone else had this.
The only thing I can thing is that I put a liberal amount of catnip out on the lounge floor quite often and they eat it and roll in it.
I just happened to be looking elsewhere re cats and it was suggested that fleas don’t like catnip.
Surely it can’t be as simple as that to stop fleas.

We haven't had any signs of fleas since just before Covid hit. Previously we'd get some just about every summer. Four outdoor cats, not treated for fleas at all in the last 6 years (we only treat as a cure, not a preventative). I can't explain it - I don't think they've increased their catnip habit 🤣.

Is it not just regular flea treatment keeping them away, or don’t you regularly treat them? If not, then you really should. They should be regularly flea and worm treated to prevent them getting them. You should never wait for them to have these things and then rush to getting products to treat the infestations.

I completely disagree. The overuse of flea treatments has a negative impact on the environment. As I said above - we've had no fleas at all in the last six years, why should I waste my money giving uneccesary treatments to my cats? Added to the fact that one of our cats reacts badly to spot on treatments anyway (running round like a mad thing and foaming at the mouth)
Regarding worming - one of our cats had a tapeworm once in the last six years - one pill and cured. No other worming required.

Agree with @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats Our vet advises against routine flea treatment. She says to regularly check for fleas and only treat if he actually has them.
Interesting about the catnip, he likes it so will keep giving it to him, would be great if it deters fleas!

Yet there is concern about the amount of insecticide entering the environment because of this approach

No I don’t like over doing things on the chemical front.
Obviously I only use what the vet prescribes and have treatment in stock at home.
It just that it only occurred to me the other day that they didn’t have any fleas and so I put two and two together and considered the nip that I have been using over the last year.
Its says online that fleas don’t like cat nip.
